    Default Computer clock not refreshing

I've mentioned this before, without a fix that worked.

I'm running windows XP, and my computer clock gets out of sync. I'm using the Windows firewall, so that rules out the clock being blocked.

I had this problem once before, and without any intervention from me, it fixed itself. I've been hoping it will fix itself again, but it's not after two weeks.

The computer battery is fine, and my computer is connected to the internet at least 16 hours a day.

The clock once adjusted keeps proper time for a couple of hours, then drops out of sink whilst the computer is on.

Anyone know of a work around of a simple fix?

Check that it is set to sync with a timeserver (Mine's set to sync with time.windows.com) and that your time zone is correctly set.

If it is set to sync, disable synchronisation and see if that improves matters. Set the clock time/date in the BIOS to something wildly wrong, watch it for a day (to see if it still shows your incorrect time or if it consistently gains/looses time)

If it still goes wildly out of whack and you have verified with a multimeter that the CMOS battery is still viable, reinstall your operating system. If that doesn't work, throw the motherboard away as it's a hardware error.

If you are using a time server, make sure its not the google one as it has lots of problems.

    Default NetTime time synchronization program

I'm not 100% sure yet, but I think I may have solved my slow clock problems.

I downloaded a free program called NetTime 3.14. It's only small and downloaded and installed in seconds, and comes with an uninstall program.

So far so good, fingers crossed.

The slow running clock caused many problems including not being able to do a restore back to a previous date.

    Default Slow computer clock fixed!

My slow computer clock is fixed. Down loading and installing NetTime has done the trick. What I still don't know is the probable cause as to why the Windows version of time synching went belly up. Any comments?

I had a problem with my clock being out, even though I was automatically syncing with the time server. I eventual discovered the sync was set in the scheduler to happen at 3am. At the time the computer was shut down, and so sync never actually happened. I have now reset it for twice a week at 3pm, and have had no further problems.

To narrow down why your clock was out, you'd need to reinstall Windows and then add your software back one item at a time, checking clock accuracy after each addition.

If it starts going out immediately after a reinstall (before you added anything at all, including drivers) then look at the hardware.
