I've been unable to watch this video all the way through without the computer shutting down. When it starts back up again I get this message:

I'm also getting green screen when viewing some (not all) videos. Is this a sign that my video card is on the way out.
Windows 7
Display Adaptor NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
I've downloaded and installed the latest driver for my video card but I keep getting these green screens and now this total shutdown. I can email the .dmp and .xml files to anyone if they'll help.

John a while ago I suffered similar I have the 9000 series card I did everything you did and more as there were lots of updates coming through.
I never sourced the codes.
Two things changed this setting for graphic handling in Firefox and a return to the shop where I purchased everything. Techie did a BIOS update/flash with latest on both Motherboard and Graphics Card. I hav not had a problem since.

John, you just need the latest codecs.
The green image is an old video decoder (codec).
You may want to load VLC player (its free) as it also plays everything better than media player.
the other error could be bad file, bad codec?

I saw your post Wheelin and I've had a similar thing happen. It looks as though you're looking through a severe snowstorm.

No Techie did it as card was still under warranty as was MB and Blue Ray. Even he said he had trouble fixing the problems. I had also a problem with Blue Ray player so not just one problem and I had tried everything prior taking it in. I admit I didn't do BIOS but have in the past with no problem on other machines and not just my own.

I've found that VLC isn't all that hot any more - ever since they started improving its its handling of 'proper' codecs it seems to not play some of the ones that it used to handle with aplomb.
Even Windows Media Player copes better with crappy codecs better than VCL now. (that, and ever since I installed VLC I keep getting 'COM Surrogate has stopped working' messages as Windows tries to thumbnail codecs that VLC seems to not recognise any more). So VLC has had the boot from me.

Grump, I just watched it thru. I normally allow wimp or any other site to download at least half of the vid before playing.
I'm running Windoze 7, i7 860 @2.8Ghz, 8 Gb Ram, GT 640 Vid card, so nothing to old or super dooper.
I haven't had any problems with VLC either.Pat
