I've been using a Telstra Mobile Broadband modem (Elite) since I moved down to Tassie.
I've yet to be somewhere that I cant get a signal, not always a strong one, but enough for a connection.
I have to keep an eye on what I download as the available quota is limited and expensive to top up.
(I would have repsonded to this thread earlier but I don;t use Windows, only Linux )

Kat there is a URL that you use to talk to the modem.
It should be in the instruction book. Something like 192.168.100.1 or 192.168.100.0.
Enter this where you would type google.com (the URL)
It will give you a web page that is actually coming from the modem. Go into the configuration or setup and you will be able to change the channel it uses for wireless. I'm sure you'll work it out if you get the right URL (IP)

OK, I'm no expert, but I did manage to get mine going (eventually).

If it is a problem with Authentication, then you need to set the right Authentication protocols (I don't know why all this geek cr*p has to be so convoluted, but it is)

    First go to Start->Connect To

Then highlight and select your relevant (Telstra) wireless connection

    Attachment 177202

Right cick and select Properties, you get this

    Attachment 177200

Highlight the Telstra connection (TT_ etc), select Properties

    Attachment 177201

Select the settings as per here, which is what Telstra Elite modem works on, and you should be in business

If those selections are not available on your computer, you will have to find an updated Wireless LAN driver (can't help you there, you're on your own)

    Default No success

Thanks everyone for taking the time however I have still had no success. I run vista and I still managed to fumble my way through the process but it was still no good, I have tried to set the network up manually as that allows me to manipulat setting but nothing seemed to work. I tried changing the Chanel the modem was set to like suggested but again no success. I am assuming that it is something to do with my driver, my boyfriends parents have a newer Asus laptop and he modem connected fine with their laptop so I'll try and update the drivers to see if that works, are your suggestions to update my LAN driver? There are 71 updates for my computer for various components so I might spend the weekend giving the laptop a birthday of updates! Hopefully this will work I have all my fingers and toes crossed!

When you update the drivers, the one to look for is the Wireless LAN driver, hopefully updating that will fix your problem.

If not, ring Telstra's "help" line
