Default Facebook as you would like to see it

Upgraded my laptop and started using FB on the new one without pre-installing the browser extension (Fluff busting purity) that removes the garbage (adds, friend requests and all your friends inane cross postings etc).

Wow! I had forgotten how bad FB has become. I left it for a few days just to see what it was like - can't believe how bad it's gotten with all the superfluous stuff in the news feed itself let alone over on the side

Anyway I again installed the fluff remover and all is good.😀 I have it set up for no adds, no friend requests, no cross postings from anyone - just direct friend posts and messages.

Of course Facebook hate it and if you mention the product name anywhere on FB (even the messenger) the bots pick it up and you get forceful message from them telling you not to use it and how insecure it is etc.

Well, that is the best example of the pot calling the kettle black that I've seen in a long time!!

Facebook is a security scourge, both at a product and corporate level. If you value the privacy of yourself, your data or anyone who you contact via your electronic devices, I would strongly suggest you not use it at all.

Not using it fixes everything that is wrong about Facebook.

I use social fixer, similar idea. I tried several when I was put on to them but SF seems to work better for me.

It's easy enough to say get off facebook but truth is it's a great tool if you use it properly. My account does not use nor mention my real name and it's a place to connect and keep in touch with friends from school and those who live a long way away from me.

Personally I'd like an option to pay a membership fee in exchange for no ads, no data collection and more control over the feed. Apparently they only make on average $12/yr out of each member.

Lots of sites are getting so desperate for revenue they put ads all over the content so they become useless. Youtube is one example... The thing is the success cycle has sped up tremendously but so has the failure cycle. It only take a few years of losing market share for companies to go broke these days... FB could evaporate in a year or 2 if they manage poorly enough.

I wouldn't use FB if most of my many relatives (9 siblings, 23 nieces and nephews, 30 uncles and aunts and umpteen cousins) across 4 continents weren't using it. I do use other forms of coms to stay in contact with some who are not on facebook but it a lot easier to use FB to keep up with what is going on.

I have 75 supposed friends, restricted to family, a few close friends, and some close former work colleagues and a few ex-students. About half of these are like me, post something once in a blue moon so its' something I only look at once a day to keep up with family activities. for example , three cousins are alpine guides in the Eurpoean Alps and 2 of my former work colleagues are outstanding wildlife photographers so its always interesting to see what they are up to. Many of the nieces and nephews are in that 20 something travel stage of life so they are always visiting some strange place or other that I find is worth a 10s look.

As I said I see no adds, no posts by friends of friends, no news feed items, no crappy video clips, just the immediate posts by my friends and family.
