    Question Some functionality stopped

Something's going on with one of my puters and I don't know if it's something I've done or how to repair/restore it.

I noticed last week that I can no longer paste images into Outlook. Also, I can no longer hit 'Alt' and enter hex code for various symbols etc.

Do any of you puter boffins know what the issue/solution is please?

WW you may have changed the email formating to plain (not html or rich text).
In Outlook this setting is in Tools - Options - Mail Format.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi WW,

Sounds dumb, but i'd make sure that your keyboard is working properly. Is the behaviour the same for both ctrl/alt keys?

Also, what happens when you press alt and type the hex code? Does nothing happen, or the hex code itself appear, etc?

It's possible that th keyboard input has also been mucked up. Check in keyboard in control panel that the right one (usually US layout) is being used, and check the correct input language is being used.

Oh, and check for sticky keys in control panel --> accessibilty. That would stuff things up in a most enjoyable manner.

    Cheers,
    Dave

Alternatively, your keyboard may be on the fritz. Try plugging another in and see if the same behaviour recurs.

Edit: Oz beat me too it!

Thanks for the advice, but settings remain unchanged.

Nothing at all happens when I press Alt and type. The keyboard and language check out alright too.

I've just noticed, I can paste an image into Word and then copy and paste it from there into Outlook. My firewall and security programs are all up to date and functioning properly. Weird.

I run three puters through a KVM switch and only have the one keyboard on the premises. I'll see if Mrs. Wood can bring another home from her work.

    Thanks men.

Probably only dirty key contacts, not hard to take most keyboards apart and clean them.
