    Default Google doubleclick

The last few days when I have been on the forums, I have had to click the Back button twice to get back to the previous page. This morning I dropped down the back arrow and saw the previous page shown in the attached below.

What is it and how do I get rid of it

Its the Ad server, more specifically the Google Ads you see are provided, tracked and served by that URL.

Just make a few entries in your Hosts file, and you'll never see anything from doubleclick (or other ad sites) again.

Or switch to Firefox with Adblock Plus and NoScript and never be bothered by ads - especially flash ads - ever again.

Yeah those pesky ads. They only help fund sites like this one. Who needs them.

The hosts file does not block the ads on this site in any way. It blocks known sites that have bad behaviours only (hijacks and popups). It does this by replacing a call to a bad url with a call to 127.0.0.1. This method is used by a lot of large organisations to protect their systems. The current file has 15400 entries. It uses the MVP hosts file named earlier.

Pop-ups, bad URL's and malicious scripts are already blocked by most antivirus programs.

It is possible to manually enter URL's you want to block into various programs, firewall, anti-virus etc etc.

My point is simply against blocking ads for the sake of blocking ads, they serve a purpose.

Turning off third party cookies is also a good thing.

No, they don't. The web needs ads like a fish needs a monthly bus ticket.
