the only browser to use at the moment is firefox 3, it has some great add-ons like delicious bookmarks and is great at helping to keep away spyware.
but google looks like it could be a good simple straight forward browser.Hurry, slowly

Firefox yes, Firefox 3, not so sure.
I was silly enough to "upgrade" this early in the piece, something I don't normally do, but I trusted Mozilla on their track record.
Now I have a browser that won't work with some of the Firefox plug-ins (eg RealPlayer video download), won't recognise certain functions on websites I have used for years (eg downloading share prices on Commsec), won't go to the next page on FreeBookSpot and I could go on.
Worst of it is, I have been unable to go back to Firefox 2 so far, even uninstalling V3, deleting all obvious references in the registry and then re-installing V2.
If you to some of the discussion sites you will find I'm not alone!
So beware, stay with Firefox 2 for the time being.

Along with the problems mentioned above firefox has another huge problem, which isn't it's fault.
It is hopeless with avg8. Crashes all the time. It's avg's problem but as far as I know avg is the only free virus program. I'm thinking of switching to linux full time the problem is so bad, but if chrome does not have the issue I may swing that way instead.
AVG really stuffed the latest version. Very annoying.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

i use avg8 and firefox 3 and hav'nt had any crashes (yet)
chrome is looking pretty good i must admit, but i use delicious bookmarks with firefox to bookmark everything i find, instead of bookmarking to my browser, when i last upgraded my pc (my old one died) because all the bookmarks are on delicious and not on the pc i was back in action. Google does have a bookmarking but the delicious one opens in a little sidebar on your browser. Just want to mention too that i use gmail and never use an email client, this way my pc stays clean from any potential email viruses and saves a ton of storage on the hard drive that email would usually consume. and again when i upgrade my pc or if something happened and it crashed, my emails are all still safe on gmail...
sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread, just sharing thoughts...
google has some great stuff to use, apart from gmail i use there webmaster tools, rss and more.Hurry, slowly

Your lucky. Maybe it's only the free version, but I'm not the only one.
Anyway I should pull my finger out and tidy up my linux partition. Working properly it's a much nicer environment than windblows...I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

I also don't have any issues with AVG8, just some with Firefox 3, but hopefully they'll get those sorted. They (or Commsec) have already sorted one of my problems, I can now download share prices from Commsec again with FF3, had to use IE since I upgraded to FF3.

AVG isn't the only free AV, there are a few good quality free antivirus programs. I used AVG for years, until they released version 8, it caused problems on every PC I installed it on, so I had to find another.
Avira have a decent free AV, only downside is the nag screen every time it updates...http://www.free-av.de/en/download/1/...antivirus.html .
As with any program someone you don't know suggests, Google it and decide yourself if you want to download it..
If you decide to install it, make sure you remove your old AV, then reboot, before installing it.
I look after around 30 computers, for friends and family, and haven't had any issues with Avira yet, on XP or Vista.
If anyone has any computer problems, feel free to shoot me a PM, I'm always willing to help if I can..Last edited by demonic; 7th September 2008 at 11:19 PM. Reason: Fixing the spelling

Damien
I am using Avast which is free for home use. Works fine with Firefox 3 and has no issues and I have been using it for a couple of years. You just have to re register every 14 months.

Thank you both for the suggestions. Demonic, well said, I should remember the disclaimers like that in my posts, but I'm not as thorough as you obviously are!
I'm fine with unix, but I've never really got windows nor any microsoft stuff. I can use it, but that's about it.
Thanks again everyone!I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.
