Simple answer is no - it is a breech of copyright.

I haven't really looked at Youtube (low download limit) but I believe some bands do use it as a way of getting their music out to people and do allow it to ba accessed. I guess it depends on whether the artists themselves have put the music on Youtube and allowed downloads, or whether someone else has put it up there. IOW, it is probably copyright and not allowed to be downloaded, but it might be OK

The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

The content on Youtube may be freely available to view, but I think the terms of use prohibit download and copying.
    Cheers.

That's why FF has a plug in to allow streaming video DL's to the user's computer. You shouldn't do it but we will give you the tools to do it anyway in case you want to break the law. Now all that makes sense doesn't it?

Is that like "it's not stealing unless you get caught".

I pretty sure you will find that by default copyrighted works are protected against unauthorised reproduction (please correct me if I am mistaken). That is unless the copyright owner has authorised you to make your own copy (which does happen).

I'm not a copyright nazi (far from it), but don't fool yourself (or others) into thinking that unauthorised copying of copyrighted works is kosher.
    Cheers.

macklin, there are some great download sites out there if you are prepared to do the right thing:

    itunes.com <- world's most popular
emusic.com <- great pricing, great back-catalog, lots of indie stuff
    ministryofsound.com <- dance music
    beatport.com <- dance music
    perfectbeat.com <- dance music
    digiwaxx.com <- urban, free

There are plenty more, these are just the ones I use on a regular basis.
