Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 problem
Hi,
It would appear someone in the household has pushed a wrong
button and my outward messages now appear to have a problem.
In the main body of the text area there is a symbol which looks
like a musical note. It is at the start of the line. As I type it moves
and is always one step ahead of my typing.
In addition, there is a dot which shows between every word. The
dot is placed at about half the height of the word, unlike a full stop
which is at the base.
When I transmit the message the musical note or the dot do not
appear in the "sent" message as received by the other person.
Any clues please.

You're using Word as your email editor. There is a button on the toolbar of word, which has that 'musical note' on it. This shows/hides the carriage returns and spaces (dots) that you are seeing. Click the button, and all should be well.
If you want to turn the Word editoring off, in outlook uncheck the box 'Use microsoft word to edit e-mail messages'. You get to this from the outlook menu bar 'Tools/Options' and select the 'mail format' tab.Chris

As Chris suggests, but since the toolbars can be customised, the 'musical note' button could possibly not be on the main toolbar.
In that case click Tools in the menu section and sellect Options (might have to hover in the Tools dropdown for a few seconds to show Options if you don't use it occasionally as Word will hide it to avoid confusing you).
The Options window will open with a range of tabs at the top. Select the View tab to display the screen display options. In the centre third of the window is a group of six tick boxes for Formatting Marks. Make sure that these are not ticked, then click OK. This will turn off the markers for you.

You blokes are just brilliant.
I have taken the remedial action and now everything
is working fine. Not only that but it fixed a previous
problem I have been living with ... every line was commencing
with a capital letter.
Thanks a million for your input.
