Default I need a new monitor

My 9 year old 17" CRT monitor has developed distinct tinge of pink lately, so I am looking to buy a new LCD monitor.

Has anyone got any advice as to what to look for.

Any experiences with good or bad monitors.

Is 19'' the way to go or do I opt for something bigger.

Any advice will be greatfully received.

    Thanks
    Macca

22 inches are not much more expensive than 19

It is great to have the extra space so you can do two or three things at once.

You should only have to pay less that $250

We had a ProView 22 and it lasted a week past the warranty.
Replaced it with an Acer 20, same resolution much better image.

They are getting better and cheaper every day.

Like power tool, bigger is better..

    Macca2,
Just a "heads-up" - The native resolution of LCDs, especially the bigger ones, is quite high and your video card may not be able to support it so you may be up for one of those as well. LCDs will work on other resolutions but they look best when set to their default (native) res.
None of them will perform at its best at 640 x480 or 800 x 600.
    The 22" I'm using likes 1680 x 1050

They are all pretty much the same, probably all come out of the same factory.
I think the bigger the better myself although I only have a 17inch. They have come down in price and if you have a local computer market, bargains can be found.
    Reality is no background music.

Go along to Harvey Norman and find one you like the look of, or a least the size you like, then go somewhere cheaper like Austin to buy it.

Is your computer as old as the monitor. As with Ian Smiths reply you may need make sure you current setup is sufficient too drive it properly.

After using a fading 17inch crt, using a 19 inch LCD is going to seem like ripping timber with a circular saw after using a blunt handsaw )

Macca check out computer markets good range and better prices

I have a Phillips LCD 170C which is a few years old now great stuff, what a space saver LCD screens are you will find desk space you never thought possible.

Macca with LCD best to see them turned on as angle of sight can often leave the screen looking pale, such as sunlight and glare making it harder to see the damn thing.

Graphics cards do matter but if you find a good one at reasonable cost they are backward compatible.

Even old graphics cards may be up to the task of driving a larger screen.
My servers have Matrox G400 graphics cards that are at least 6 years old. No problem in displaying the 1920x1200 my LCD screen can display.
I'm not sure they'd be up to the task for some demanding graphics application or game but what I need, they'll do me for a while yet.

    Thanks for all the advice.
My computer is only 18 mths old and has a mother board with an on board graphics card.
I rang the builder of the computer (Austin) and was told that an LCD would work OK.
They have stocks of Samsung 19" 943NWX due in shortly at $185. I will wait and look at this.
    Thanks again to all.

If buying anything from HarveyripoffNorman please ask the salesperson for the best deal for cash as the advertised price seems to be infalted to cover the No interest to pay for xx month situation - I do and it does save money
