    Default No pictures in IE7

When I launch IE7 no pictures display. When I look at the Internet Options - advanced tab the show pictures tick box is unchecked. I check the box and the pictures return but something unchecks the tick box on boot every time.

Any ideas. Did a google and not much help. query some malware??

Have been running Norton Internet Security religously but I know that's not perfect.

    Quick solution - install Firefox.

Long solution - read this guide to removing trojans

Personal recommendation if you suspect a trojan - save your data and any setup/config info you need, and do a nuke from orbit reinstall of Windows. Sounds silly, but it can be so much faster than fiddling around trying to eliminate a nasty trojan from a Windows box.

Might work option - try restoring your PC to a previous (known ok) point. Search for 'system restore' in the Help and Support centre (Start Menu - Help and Support)

It's possible that its not actually being done by something nasty, just some badly written code in an installer or something - but to actually confirm this takes a fair bit of fiddling around if the cause is not immediately apparent. My experience has been that it is soooo much faster and less effort just to reinstall the O/S.

    Default Saving data, etc.

From one or two unpleasant experiences, reinstall or upgrade of the OS may clobber the "My Documents" folder and its subfolders, as well as Internet Favorites. A lot of MS software uses those as default destinations for saved files. Other subfolders are less vulnerable. Copy the "My Documents" to a new folder such as "Saved_Stuff" for protection. An offline copy, CD or floppy, is safest. And in the future, save data elsewhere than "My Documents."
