Serial ATA DVD Burner
Hi All,
I have just purchased a Pioneer DVD burner (DVR-215BK). I have an ASUS P4PE motherboard that has 2 SATA connections. I have connected up the DVD to one of these ports but it doesn't find it. I have read that this Mobo doesn't support SATA ATAPI devices only Hard drives.
Does anyone know if this is correct or how i can get around. I have tried ASUS support but haven't got a response.
Cheers
Michael.

I would have thought though that it should recognise a SATA devise if connected and powered correctly (ie shouldnt matter if HDD or CD/DVD) but could be (and often am) wrong
Manual is here and the link for the motherboard itself (pics specs details blurb etc etc) is here (I hope it's the right motherboard but if not go to the ASUS site and search for the right one) - I had a very quick look in manual but couldn't find any mention, sorry.
If neither of those help you, try a google search for the MB and add 'review' or 'specs' and that should link to places which have reviewed the MB and might have more details. Only other thing I can think of is to post your question on either the PC Hardware pages on the Whirlpool forum (need to join first if you're not already a member) or the Atomic forum.
Oh and I found ASUS support slow - they did get back to me when I had a question but took a week or so from memory. Have you tried the vendor from whom you bought the DVD?Regards
Rob

Hi Rob,
hanks for the info. I have the manual but it doesn't tell you if it supports these devices or not. I have just posted the question on whirlpool as well.
Cheers

Just out of curiosity let me know the result if you find out - my curiosity is piqued and I have been thinking of adding a SATA DVD burner to my mum's puter (different MB but still an Asus) and this might save me some worry later (if indeed your correct which I hope you're not )
Regards
