simplest 10" Book Reader ? Kindle DX ?
Hello,
Have been trying to find a kindle dx - they have stopped making them , no luck so far.
Anybody got one they want to sell ?
Assuming that I cant get my hands on a dx - Which of the current crop of tablets available to us at the moment would be closest -
Am very happy with my "normal" prehistoric keyboard kindle but its no good for reading scanned A4 documents. Screen too small.
Not interested in games or videos or multmegapixel backwardsforwardsideways cameras or internet cruising - just want to be able to sit on a plane/bus/train and read books and scanned docs of my choice without the battery going flat on a long flight - ability to run skype might be a handy bonus.
Seems to me that most tablets cant hold a candle to the kindle regarding battery charge - I think I can go for 30 days without recharging.
So any suggestions or any unloved kindle DXs out there ?
Bill

Almost any 'Android' based tablet will do what you want. You will have to connect it to the internet in some fashion, usually a wireless modem - if you don't have one, check with your friends, someone will usually have one & will let you cadge a few megabytes. The main advantage of Android (and Windows based) tablets is that you are not tied to one companies software and content. So far, Android seems to be fairly malware free.
With Android based machines you can download a free Kindle reader as well as a Adobe's Acrobat reader, then just plug the tablet into your main machine like I presume you do now with your Kindle & download the documents to the correct directory.
Check out Aldi & JB HiFi - Aldi sem to have a new Android tablet out every few months, and I have found JB - depending on the store - to have a good range & very competitive prices. The main trouble I have found at JB if if the computer department is being run by an Apple fan-boy, then the staff will constantly tell you that you have to buy an Apple product & pretend to have no knowledge of the alternatives.
The main disadvantage with any colour tablet is the battery life - about 9-10 hours on internal power compared to days with the electro-static Kindle displays.
I have both a Kindle Keyboard (7") and I can read bus timetables on it - I just have to use the enlarge feature occasionally, and I also currently have a 32 Gb. 'Google' 7" tablet for colour stuff. I did have a 10" tablet from Aldi, but I found it too inconvenient to lug around, so I gave it to a friend to use as a photo display for her art projects.
