    Default Sound effects in Word

Some years ago, I wrote several stories using Word running on XP. The stories revolved around jet aircraft and trains. At the time I managed to download some fantastic sound effects. Low pass jets flying over, diesel locos idling, I can almost smell the diesel fumes,......... ahem, sorry, I'm getting carried away. Playback thru my Bose desk top sound system was amazing.

When that computer blew up, I bought another and installed Windows 7.

Now when I load my old stories, the sound effects no longer work.

    Q. Is there a better Word type program that I can insert sound effects into. Would need to copy my original Word text across first.

    Ken

probably because the word document has lost the links to the sound effects.
If you still have the sound files -- and more importantly know where they are on your hard drive -- you should be able to restablish the links and have the document work like it did previously.

    Default Sound effects in Word

I think I might have solved my own problem.

For some reason, the Word document had been saved as "read only". I don't know how, but I managed to save it as "read" and wallah, got all my sound files back.

    Q. How do you convert a Word file from "read only" to "read"?

    Hi Ken

I think "Read only" is a semi-automatic option Word uses when first opening a file from another "source".
The option is designed to protect the user from nasties that may lie hidden inside a visual basic macro attached to or hidden inside the file.
Your embedded sound affects are a form of visual basic macro.

I think you can change the default file open action to automaticly enable embedded macros, but do you want to ...
