    Default Static on the phone

Since upgrading to a faster internet package (ADSL 2+) from telstra I've had static on the phone line. When I disconnect the modem no static. I've tried several different filters with no success. I even tried doing a firmware upgrade to the modem (Siemens Speedstream 4200) but it didn't take. Is it worth going into a Telstra shop to get it sorted, or should I just suck it up and buy a new modem?

First thing I would be checking, is that modem suitable for ADSL 2+.

I used to have one of those and when I upgraded, I'm quite certain that on the Bigpond Website, it wasn't suitable, so they sent me a 2Wire Wireless Modem

We have just been through hell with Telstra and ADSL2.

Over a year of faultless service, then 3 months of constant drop outs (32 times in 12 hours according to the Telstra tech). We were fortunate??? enough to be using all Telstra/Bigpond equipment so they had to fix the problem, but it still took months.

I would suggest that you get a modem through Telstra/Bigpond.

If you don't, they will ALWAYS say that the modem is at fault and that it is not their problem.

Modem is "supposed" to be compatable with ADSL 2+, however there is a firmware upgrade that "may" be needed. When I tried to do the upgrade it failed.

I'd be ringing Telstra or service provider and asking for a techy to repair the corded connections out side. Check your connections at the socket all the rain moisture will do that even out in the street box.

The problems started before the rain, about 2 months now (since the upgrade to ADSL 2+). I went and bought a new filter for ADSL 2 + and the problem seems to have been resolved.

Had the same problem a few months ago, contacted Bigpond and they sent me two new upgrade filters.

I was gonna suggest filters, but you have it solved already.
