    Default Another strange one.

My notebook has started blurring text. Not all the text and it takes a minute or two to start it. If I highlight the text or rewrite it in someway it clears up for a while. Ie this text just started to blur so I reduced the size of the window to get a better size block of text for a picture and it cleared up.

I have updated the video driver.

It is a Toshiba Satellite Notebook with ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics and 4G ram

    Anybody have any suggestions?

I am waiting waiting and it will not do it!

Given up waiting so will split the pic I already have.

Dean last time I saw this on screen it was a case of damage to the cable or screen itself through discussions with the owner worked out it had been dropped at some point and when opening they would twist the screen with such force. Hope this may help and you get it sorted ASAP.

Does your Notebook run a full Win OS or a smaller 'starter' version?

If the former, I'd check that your screen resolution is the optimal one for your display. (If it's not marked '(optimal)' in the selection list, you may need to check the specs in the User's Manual. )

If the latter, well... like Wheelin' said, the odds are more likely it's a HW fault.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Looks/sounds like a video memory fault to me.

It has not been dropped and I am not aware of the screen being twisted but one never knows what is happening inside. I like your idea of getting it sorted. Buy a new one lol.

Its full Win 7 and I believe it is running at native resolution. 1366 X 768 on 15inch wide screen. I hope it is not a HW problem because SWMBO is making noises about hers playing up. That may just be her tho lol.

When I wrote the first post I waited ages for that post to go funny. I read a book for a while but it would not cooperate. Now It is happenning in about 6 seconds. Sigh.

Worth looking into. Once I used to know all this stuff about my computer(s) but I have got out of the habit over the years as they have got easier to use and harder to find the information. I have used a program called Si Soft Sandra (I think) that will probe the computer and come up with just about every bit of detail available. That was some time ago. Maybe I will look for it again. If it was a PC I would just slip in a new graphics card and driver and see what happens. I think it uses shared memory but not sure.

After a quick check with the graphics driver control centre the notebook has 1471MB of HyperMemory so it is not shared, and the screen resolution is as stated so it is the same as the resolution in use. It would most likely be easier and cheaper to buy a new one rather than try to fix it. It is a disposable society.

I just remembered that the main problem with SWMBOs notebook is that it would go completely blank every so often and nothing could be done with it. Leave it for a while and it worked again. I thought of overheating but extra cooling made no difference. Anyway I just realised that it has not done this for months.

Sounds like the go to me, if it came to me to be checked, I'd try it with an external monitor, that would prove it wasn't the LCD screen.

You can get an LCD screen for a Toshiba on eBay for less than $100.
Only about 8 or 10 screws to replace, trick is to find the first 4 screws 'cos they are hidden under little black plastic stickers.

Thanks for the ideas Cliff. I will try another screen and see what happens. At least I can narrow the problem down a bit. I have dismantled a notebook before. I searched for the instructions on the net. There were a few variations but good enough to get it apart and back together. Sadly I could not fix the problem. It was going to cost too much.

I know it took some time but I have finally got around to trying my other screen. It took some time for the problem to appear but it is now happening almost as quick as I type lol. The other screen is fine in Extended Desktop mode but is identical to the main screen in Duplicate mode. Sigh.
