I tend to do that to any pc with factory installed OS's just to rid them of junk and make sure I've got it the way I like it.

First steps I'd suggest after rebuild, as I'm sure you already know - install the anti-virus software (I've had very good success with avast free and the new microsoft security essentials is decent when you want a no-fuss solution), then onto windows update for the 500 patches. Then install your software, then onto windowsupdate again to get patches that fix those issues. Reboot 500 times, then image the whole thing onto a backup partition so it's easier next time
Thats part of the problem everyone we know bypassed VISTA and with HP's priority drivers gggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrr I hate them with a vegance.

Yes always clean installs followed by download virus scanners on another machine install so only need to do updates etc. RRFLMAO yes and Microsofts mass updates.

Well onto drive two neighbours laptop remove music and files easy virus ridden

I might get time to go to H&F's sale tomorrow and shed time today

I always roll my own and have for years....hence the giant black glowing beast that's peeking out from under the desk! No driver issues when I choose each part

The thing that always gets me is how people get these viruses so easily. Simple rules I think should be engraved around the edges of all monitors, rune style...

    - If you get an email from somebody you don't know offering something that sounds too good to be true, it's a trap.

    - Just like in real life, always use protection (a good a/v in this case) when engaging in activity with unknown partners (fyi - I've never known anyone who got a virus looking at woodworking sites...

    - Pirated software is distributed by people who don't mind stealing off others. This often extends to them having no qualms about stealing from you, hence the keyloggers they often include at no extra charge...

oh, that's too wordy...the summary version

    Think before you click!!

One reason I build my own shame you cant with laptops.

Sadly many also come through from even people you know.

Viruses are written first fixes 2nd sadly we have people who feel its their right to inflict these upon the world. Well not quite true a few woodworking sites have been hit along with those who visit them.

Sadly even such as main media sites have had their fair share of hidden nasties. The virus son was hit with was off a legit site, how often has E-bay had dodgy pages as well as paypal.

Makes it a case of Mr Gates leaves to many doors open.
