Only 3 slots
I have only 3 slots in my computer. What I've done is order 2 matched sticks of 1Mb DDR ram, each, 400 Mz PC3200 184 pin on eBay. Less than $20. If that doesn't work I've wasted little.
Thanks fellas.

MSY are cheap but they aren't careful with their orders & they are NEVER wrong.
They never ever learned the saying "The customer is always right."
They want your money before they ship & they won't fix any discrepancies in the order.
Even if it is only a $7 card reader.
I won't buy from them any more & I won't recommend them to anybody.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

What Cliff says. I don't waste my time driving out to the local branch to buy from them anymore. Phones don't get answered, it's not in stock even if advertised in stock, yadda, yadda, yadda...

184 pin DDR....that's like 10 years old...that's back when computers ran on steam power and we had to shovel coal into them!

Computer losing time.
This is weird, after installing new ram, my computer clock has stopped syncing with the internet time.
No, it's not the battery, the battery does not come into play whilst the computer is running, so I believe.
Any clues, this happened to me once before, but it came good all by itself.

Did you just notice the issue or is it possible things happened when you were looking at software to help optimize your o/s ?
I'd look at whether something has changed your firewall settings.
Could also be routing has changed (by the software you first installed).
Maybe try a different time server.

Made another error
The two sticks of ram I ordered on eBay, turned up today. Bugger, I didn't realise ram comes in low density and high density, and of course, I purchased the wrong type. I got the high density type and my computer would not start up.
All's not lost, the eBay seller in the States is happy to change the ram over for low density for a moderate extra cost.

I may be a bit late with this but you can check your ram here and it will tell you what your PC will take.
I bought 4 sticks from them, one was faulty which they replaced.
Use the Crucial System Scanner software to find out what type of memory is in your computerCheers Fred

Ram returned for replacement
Following on from my mistake of purchasing high density ram instead of low density (why do they make life difficult) I contacted the seller who was more than happy to swap it over at a modest cost, and extra $15.
The seller reports that my old ram was received by them in the States and that new ram was on it's way. Postage back to the US was $20, ouch!
I venture to say that not to many sellers would go to all that trouble just to keep a buyer happy, and I am. Their correspondence is fantastic even if slightly Chinese English
I'll let you know when it arrives and if it speeds up my old XP clunker.

New low density ram arrived
Final report, the replacement ram arrived today, and works perfectly.
I was hoping for an increase in computer speed, but this doesn't appear to be the case.

I improved the performance of a few old XP machines by porting them to virtual machines on hardware way better than XP would be able to support. Interestingly, on one occasion, the performance didn't improve, despite nearly 3 times the available processing power and 6 times the memory. Then I uninstalled AVG and amazingly things started flying...

What are you using for security?
Hi G9,
That's very interesting. After dumping AVG, what security measures are you using?

If it's a virtual machine....the virtual 'off' switch fixes everything....
