Totally free PC fix software
Can anyone recommend a totally free pc fix program. I wan't something that analyses my computer and fixes the problems, FREE.
My computer has slowed down to a snails pace, even using Autocad, and occasionally, reports pages not responding, it's so frustrating.
I installed and ran a "free" program called Spark Trust PC Cleaner and after an hour, reported over 900 problems. After the scan, I hit fix problems.
Just as I thought, a free program wanted $29.95 to fix the problems. Alarm bells started ringing. They suggested I could use PayPal to pay, so I did.
They wanted more than my PayPal account, they also wanted my credit card account. At this point, I cancelled out.
If you have a fair dinkum free program that will analyse my computer and fix the problems, please let me know.

Try Ccleaner and Malwarebytes, and maybe Glary Utilities, just watch for additional toolbars etc. and opt not to install them

My computers are now Windows Free Zones but when I did have to run Windows, I used Spybot
Not sure if it's still free but it was very effective.Geoff

It helps to know the details of the PC and what version of which OS you are using.

Hi Ken,
I have had a bad fortnight with getting 2 virus's and both times this site helped me out
Remove AVASoft Antivirus Professional (Uninstall Guide)
I downloaded both the Malwarebytes and hitmanpro after it and can highly recommend both as it completely fixed my computer.
They can both be downloaded from the link above.

Spybot Search & Destroy Ver 2.
Malwarebytes also has a free version but it has become very bloody hard to get a copy without some bugger trying to force some other crap on you as well.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

I'm with Cliff.
You do have antivirus software installed, don't you?
If not, AVGFree is more than worth the price.
'AVGFree', 'Malwarebytes AntiMalware' and 'Spybot Search and Destroy' are all I've ever needed, personally.
If they don't do the job, I'd be heading for the local PC Shop if I were you.
Edit:
Malwarebytes is here: Malwarebytes
(You need to fill out rego details, but there's no cost and it works.)
Spybot S&D2 is here: SpyBot Search & Destroy - Download
(May or may not ask for rego details, I forget now.)
And, if you don't have antivirus software, AVGFree is here: AVG AntiVirus Free Edition for Windows - Download Registration (free version)
(Again, rego details are asked for, but no cost and it works too.)
I forgot to mention, if you do already have antivirus software, ensure that the virus definition files are up-to-date. There'll be an update option/button somewhere.... Steve

Still looking for PC fix software
Thanks fellas for all your advice. Tried installing Malware Bytes, it found about 9 problems, and fixed nothing. Tried Hitman Pro, same result, zilch.
I use AVG and it reports nothing. My computer is an old one about 6 years running XP. Only half the ram works, that alone may be my problem.
Got an email back from SparkTrust PC Cleaner suggesting I continue to check out with their software, and would reduce the price to about $15.
Wrote back telling them I don't have a credit card, so will wait and see.
So, I'm still looking for some software that will analyse my computer for problems, and fix the problems. Is there such software that really works?

I suspect that you've answered your own question already. It could well be the lack of RAM.
Every day, more and more resources are required to browse the web etc. If only half of your RAM is working, that may well be the issue.
Software can't fix everything, free or otherwise.
A visit to the PC shop is probably best, to have them look at it.
Be really wary of that mob that want your credit-card details. Why did they say you could pay by PayPal, then ask for your credit-card info? I smell a rat. Don't give them your credit-card details under any circumstances is my recommendation.
To keep the cost low, if you don't want to pay the local PC shop, work out by a process of elimination which of your RAM has failed and remove it, then just buy some extra RAM, fit it and see what happens first. That's your cheapest option.... Steve

Yup, if cleaning it with Malwarebytes didn't speed it up, you have a hardware problem.

DDR Ram
I now also suspect that lack of ram is my problem.
At present I have two sticks in sockets. One is elixir brand 512MB DDR 400Mz CL3, the other is Veritech VM 512MB DDR 400Mz.
If I replace both sticks with larger capacity ones, what specs do I need to match? This DDR ram is pretty cheap from eBay.
Incidently, I deleted a lot of files and transferred all my drawing files onto hard drive E, then did a defrag. Just this has sped things up considerably.
Is there a simple way of testing ram without having to take each stick out in turn?
Edit after thought. Swapped the memory around, still only 512MB is recognized. Does anything have to be switched on to read the full 1024MB?

You shouldn't need to switch anything, but it sometimes depends on which slots the cards are in, usually slot0 and slot1 for 2. Also, sometimes mixed brands don't work together, or at least that used to be the case. I'm a little out of touch.
Running on 512MB is definitely the problem, in my opinion. My old beast, a Pentium D dual 3GHz, also running XP (SP3), has 2GB RAM and that's not really enough these days.
Did you move either memory stick or swap one out at about the time the problems started, or did it just happen spontaneously?
First ensure that both sticks are seated properly. Then try one at a time in each of the slots and see what happens. It's always possible that your MB is on the way out.
Substitution is the best way.
Edit: I'm no expert, and this is about the limit of my knowledge on this subject.... Steve
