To give you a crash course in iTunes...

For CDs that you already have:
Apple - iTunes - Tutorials - Learn about all things iTunes.

Then sync iTunes to your iPhone
Apple - iTunes - Learn about the features of iTunes 10.

Apple will then want to sync to your iWallet, for extra purchases of course. Depending on your taste in music, you may have to buy a US iTunes card from ebay (this will give you access to content that is region locked to the US).
