Help with firefox
I have just started using Firefox, and have 2 questions.
1. When i type a URL into, for example this message, why doesn't it create a hyperlink?
2. When i click on PDF file link, can I set it to open automatically, without having to choose Adobe to open it?

Just had to test it.
www.amazon.com
Well it just linked that for me........I checked the preferences and couldn't see any "Tick" box to make it do that.Last edited by watson; 2nd September 2009 at 01:33 PM. Reason: addition

1. FIXED. Don't worry, it just happens differently to what i am used to
If I type in Internet Explorer www.woodworkforums.com ends up as a hyperlink, whilst I am typing. (underlined and clickable)
In Firefox, it juts stays as the letters. I just discovered that when I Preview or submit, it changes it so no problems on that one.
2.
Attachment 115160 The "Do this automatically for files like this from now on'"is not available. I even tried to change it in the Settings option, but no luck

I think from memory you need to set it in Applications which is found by clicking on Tools from the top and then Options. It's probably set as always ask.

Download the Foxit Reader pdf reader add-on for Firefox and you will never have to wait for the Adobe Reader again, lightning fast and a lot more options.
I now only use Acrobat for when I want to edit pdf files.

hi just a thought - if the screen grab shown is from your pooter, then it considers Adobe Reader 9.1 to be the default. Pperhaps you do not have this version of adobes reader.
This would also explain why you have to click ok when you try to open the file with the new reader - the pooter looks first for the default application. Also why the option button at the bottom is not available.
What I have just written may be a load of old cobblers, but try changing the default application tro open the files.

That's the version I have of Adobe Reader. Now I have changed to Foxit, the only difference is taht it shows Foxit as teh default. I have tried setting it to open it in the browser, or separately, and neither work. I went back to IE, and realised that it always prompts for a save or open option, so I assume it is another Vista "safety" feature.
