Warning
Hi all,
If you have recently down loaded the latest Firefox, it is not compatible with the British
Dictionary and if you are using it for your spell checker you will be left exposed to the spell nazis unless you switch to the USA Dictionary.
I am wondering why i haven't coped it yet. So if you have been biting your toung thats my eccuseHugh

A Duke,
Haven't noticed too many "spell nazis" about lately.
What version are we talking about? - mine is 3.16.3, and I have the English (Australian) dictionary add-on installed and it picks up the difference between colour and color, - good enough for me.
Maybe the if you have Version 4 beta there may be an issue ..but it is a beta release after all.

Hi,
Mine is 3.6.13 and I downloaded it when it popped up to say a new download was ready. It did its checks of my add ons etc. when it restarted but did not tell me any thing and I just discovered I had no spell checker when I made a typo that even I knew was not right. My problem was I did not know what program was doing the spell check. But when I did some checking I found the British English dictionary marked not comparable with version 3.6.13.
As for the "spell nazis" they were politely asked to pull their heads in a bit by the Moderators as they were offending too many of the mere mortal amongst the rest of us but as I know how much anguish It causes them when people are too lazy to use the spell checker, I did not want to offend any of the either after all I am married to a retired teacher.

Hugh,
Dunno,
Just did a bit of a google on it and it does seem to have caused some problems but I've just downloaded it and set it as the defauilt and it works fine.
Maybe uninstall it and download it again, there may have been a version update to fix the problem.
Try the "Orstraylyan" version and see how that goes
Ian
PS I really meant 3.6.13 - in my previous post - no spell checker in the world is going to fix crap typing!!

Hi Ian,
I suspected you had the numbers in the wrong order but didn't want to look like a numbers nazi although that's more my thing as they don't have exceptions to prove rules. It would have been a rather old version, you would have had anti-virus and every thing else telling you to up date.
I have checked for updates, non yet so I will carry on as is until they update the browser or add on.I use the British dictionary because as I say the wife is a teacher and just because spell checker accepts it does not make it right so I had to find one that learned to spell same place as her.
Thanks for your interest and attempts to help. I posted mainly to help any one who might have been having the same trouble and the Mods if some one tried to blame the Forum, they could got browy points for giving the answer instead of just "Its not our problem"
RegardsHugh
