Thread: Win10 Ram Question

According to ZDnet, 64-bit Win 10 Pro, Enterprise and Education can use 2TB ram while the 64-bit Win10 Home edition can only use 128GB ram.
They also say 16+GB would be fine for most resource heavy applications.

This also will depend on the motherboard you will be using.

It's going to be a low end build, I'll use the drives from this box.

This is what I am thinking - although it may change depending on stock when I go to buy.
Intel Core i3 9100F Quad Core CPU, Asus B365M-A board and Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) Vengeance LPX DDR4 2400MHz Red ram.

I've been building my own PC's for 20 years or so and I tend to go basic board and CPU and a good amount of ram.
Usage wise, atm I have 40 Opera windows open, plus VLC, Deluge and the usual stuff and that's usual for me.

I'm not an expert, far from it but I know enough to get by - besides, every conection inside a PC is different.
The only way you can get it wrong (aside from the case leads) is if you're an idiot with a hammer.

Are you sure an i3 will suit your requirements ?

just my 2c worth. I'd definetly consider buying a dedicated SSD for your OS install drive. That's by far (far far far) the best upgrade you'll ever get for performance. It doesn't need to be a huge one if you're keeping your other HDDs.

Second would be RAM, but since you're already talking 16Gb I'd be (more than) happy with that. I had a 8Gb Surface Book for a few years, and now have a 16Gb one, and the perf difference between the two is noticeable. Can have many more browser windows open with no worries.

You are going to be very disappointing with that i3 CPU.

I would be looking at an AMD CPU & compatible MoBo, and as others say above, definitely an SSD - at least for the system drive.

Thanks for all the replies, this is what I ended up going with - a compromise between what I want and what's available.

For what I need I think this will be plenty.

An ssd for the system drive, even only 256g, will make an <enormous > difference, in booting and opening programs.
