Default cannot find the wireless button

    Hello,

My wifes Toshiba Satellite L640 has suddenly lost the ability to detect wireless signals.

Could have been caused by installing AVG - uninstalling AVG didnt fix it, so I rolled back the system to a restore point approx 3 weeks ago - that didnt work either.

Googling reveals that Fn F8 should switch on the wireless or if that doesnt work, look for a physical wireless button.

Fn F8 does nothing and I cannot find a physical wireless button.

The local help on the laptop hasnt given me any useful ideas.

Anybody have any ideas ? Driving me daft have spent 3 hours messing about with this.

Bill if you know how to go to the drivers and see if they are still listed they may need to be reinstalled.

Not sure if it's relevant but my Toshiba laptop uses F12 as the wireless on/off control.
I can't offer any software suggestions as I run Linux.

Have a look if you have the Toshiba utility ConfigFree installed, it handles/Bluetooth connections. If it's not installed, you should be able to download it.

Now when you say Fn F8

Are you meaning Function key F8.
Or Fn/F8 meaning the key labeled FN bottom left of KB , hold that down, then press F8 at the top.

See if the FN is doing its job by trying FN/F6 and FN/F7 Should turn brightness up and down.

    Default Working again

Thanks for all suggestions. Will keep for future reference.

Seems that it just needed a few hours rest.

    Working fine this morning.

Lost count of the number of times I shut it down and switched on again last night with no effect.

Shouldnt be any difference between shut down and wait 1 minute and shut down and wait 7 hours ?

May be the server/station or what ever they call it was down and had nothing to do with your end.
