Wireless USB modems
Hi guys, Im just wondering if anyone knows much about these wireless USB modems, We have internet at home and all but when we go away or if im out of the house i'd like to be able to access the internet. Because of this i'd prefer to buy a USB modem outright and then pay $30 for 2gb everytime i wanna use it rather then paying $30 a month. I can buy a virgin USB modem for $179 and then you pay $15 per gb for prepaid internet. If i buy a no name USB modem off ebay can i then use any companies Prepaid Amounts? If not how do i get out of this relatively cheap?
Thanks

Optus have a 5gb per month deal with a free modem...$49.
My mum bought one becaus we spend more time out of the house than in it, also for when i needed to go to sydney (4 hrs return twice a week) i could have the internet (with my laptop) so i could do homework.
They are good for what they are designed to do, and Its only a little slower than normal (if your in a good spot). the optus one that we have didnt work when we went to grafton, i tried to use it on the way up and it didnt want to really work anywhere from taree onwards.
so, they are good and i think the $49 is good value for money if you go thru that much.S T I R L O

Yeah I will only be using it a couple times a month, Not really practical to spend that much.

fair enough then. You would be better off to buy the modem and get a prepaid like you said.

Have you got a 3G phone? For what you want this would probably be the best outcome as you can adjust how much you want to use per month rather than being locked into a contract and you don't have to buy a modem either

For what it would cost to buy a cable i'd assume i could get a modem off ebay the same price, I could get one for $30-$40. Then i just pay $10 to start with for their simcard then $15 per gb and that lasts 90 days.
