My route to work is about 2km, 600m is dirt. Swapping tires wouldn't be worth it, is there an inbetween category that'll do road and dirt?

    Funkychicken,

The 2nd in charge rides one of those 4 wheel drive equivalents in a bike. I swapped a back tire for one just as wide but smooth as, and although there was a lot of complaining at first we are used to it now. The drop in friction on the road is remarkable.
Unless you are going on really rough stuff you could go for one of these tyres. Try it on the front first.

Aaaaaaahh, full carbon. They are so nice to ride, with the way, they soak up the bumps, on the road surface.

I love it in those bike magazines where they show the local riders and their bikes. Some of these guys weigh 65kg! How do you get that?

I've lost 15kg since riding but most of my friends are another 15kg under that.

I weigh about that. I think it's a hereditary thing, as well as not eating much fatty sugary stuff and working at a sawmill

Don't you guys need to fatten up before Winter?

No one wants to snuggle up to a cold bag of bones.

No one wants to snuggle up to me anyway so I'll be fine without extra padding

    Exclamation

I'm 6ft2in in old money and weigh 70klg, trained most days all my life, first cycling then swimming (surf club) which led me into running.
Continued running until I broke my left foot (stress fracture, I thought I knew better than the doctors) had to have my foot rebuilt with titanium staples and ferrule (for sinews) reduced to walking for a couple of years, had sold all five of my bikes and moved up from Sydney to Brisbane.
Getting a bit twitchy these days. Wife has asked me why I have been looking in all the bikeshop windows lately.Shhhh!
    regards
