Must see at Broken Hill
The wife and I received a call from our friends who were
travelling around Australia. They wanted us to catch a plane
and go out for dinner with them in Perth as they were
missing us. Naturally we scoffed at the idea.
However, by a series of deceptions, I managed to book
them in at Port Augusta Caravan Park and booked my van
in beside them. My wife and I knew it would take them some
time to cross the Nullabor so we went to Victor Harbour for
a couple of days first. My plan was well hatched but a little
difficult to complete as our friends kept getting mixed up on
how long it takes to cross the Nullabor.
We arrived at P.A. Caravan Park just eight minutes before
they got there and they got the biggest surprise of all time.
They then realised why I had been ringing them on the
mobile regularly to see "how they were" etc.
Having joined forces with them we travelled to Broken Hill
for a look around. Even allowing for Victor Harbour, Mildura,
Swan Hill and Echuca on our trip, the highlight of our trip
was the "Big Picture" at Broken Hill. It is the largest mural
in the world and took over two years to paint. We stood
at it for an hour admiring the many objects contained within it.
What a fantastic work of art!
We have been recommending that visitors to Broken Hill
should not be permitted to exit the area without seeing
the "Big Picture" first.
