I purchased a 2015 Jayco CT (camper Trailer) in March of 2016, the previous owner bought it new in late 2015 and used it once before trading it on a full size caravan. Being second hand it had a three month warranty. Before I could even pick it up it was recalled due to concerns with the roof lifting system. The CT was returned after repairs/modifications were 'supposedly' carried out but due to health problems, the CT sat in my driveway for a few months and thus the warranty had expired. When I finally got to use the CT the roof collapsed on my first attempt to raise the roof, so much for repairs and modifications!

I wrote to Jayco HQ and they authorised warranty repairs. When the CT was returned I inspected the roof lifting system and discovered a couple of cables were frayed, how they missed that is beyond me, anyway, again I wrote to Jayco and again they authorised repairs.

When it was returned we took a short four day trip and the camper performed without problems. Again the Ct sat around for months due to health problems and we finally set off on a trip to Melbourne. The camper performed well, but on return I thought I'd inspect the mechanism. Well blow me down, the main winch cable was frayed, not in just one or two places, but the entire working length. so again, I wrote to Jayco HQs and again they have authorised repairs. The CT goes in early January.

The first problem was due to the recall, the second as a result of a snapped cable on the front right side, this allowed the front right corner to collapse about 500mm. The third time was as a result of faulty repairs and as a result cables and a number pulleys and components along the line were replaced. I suspect these components should have been replaced on the first recall.

This last problem is due to the main drum cable, if this cable snaps the entire roof will come crashing down, severely injuring anyone inside. Jayco supply two safety poles as a safety precaution, so assuming these actually are put to the test, severe damage to the roof, door and canvas would ensue and as there are only two safety poles I doubt very much if they could successfully hold the roof in place if any of the telescopic spring guides were displaced.

Full marks to Jayco on their out of warranty repairs, but geez their product is very worrying. I certainly will never use it again and as soon as it is repaired I will be selling. Modern workmanship is the key!

Interesting thing on the warranty: When the three month second hand warranty was up, the 12 month first owners warranty would still have had time left. Another interesting thing, the roof raising system has a life time warranty, only for the original first owners though???
