    Default Mt Augustus

    Hi campers,
I am thinking of taking a trip to mt Augustus for sept school hols.
Will be either jsut me and my yongest girl (11) swagging it or possibly my wife and another of the 3 daughters if I hire a camper.
Anyway, can anyone tell me how long it takes to get there from Perth? Im down in the southern outskirts, Byford.
Im thinking push it all the way one direction then take two days the other direction and see a few other sites.

In round figures you'll do 900 kliks from Perth to Mt Augustus.

Time it takes depends upon the state of the roads and if there is much rain about. The roads are closed almost instantly rain of any decent amount falls.

I was stuck near Gascoyne at a crossing waiting for the water to lower for a day and a half in 84. Had lunch at the Gascoyne pub (pie) and headed to Mt Augustus, only to strike deep water at one crossing. Camped that night and crossed the next day,

Three days later we headed out to Meekathara and encountered dry roads, mainly dry creeks and some dust

    That was in August.

Had some friends with problems like mine in 95 or 96 and some more friends had the same problem in 2004 (I think).

So be prepared to sit out if it rains.

    Mick.
