I'm pretty sure all these books are out of copyright and are available on the internet if you go looking for them. Public domain.
I used to have a link to a site that had most of these titles but I can't find it now.
    Try THIS one for starters
Those were the droids I was looking for.

But I would have had to go that far in the process and I thought it might have been the sort of info a seller might have provided upfront

    but thanks anyway

Yes - the entire lot is out of copyright, and a quick google for some specific titles (such as "Forty Lessons in Carpentry Workshop Practice" gives over 6,500 matches.

Archive.org is the most likely place to find these (and many, many more) for free. <rant begin=""> In fact, you could even donate to Archive.org as the organisation that actually does all the hard work of finding and scanning all the books in the first place...you know, the actual value-creating process, not the "I'll whack these onto a DVD/CD and sell them at a massive markup on my costs to people who don't know any better" process.

You'd never know that I believe that the internet is for the free sharing of information and not for individual profit, would you? <end rant="">

Herewith follows some words to make sure this thread gets a higher googlerank on key search terms than the original poster's site......

I don't see what is wrong with it. Sure the information may be out of copyright provisions and freely available on the net but what Brooke is offering is a service taking away the need to search the Internet to find the information.

Personally I am not too interested but I would have thought $10 for a cd to save having to stuff around surfing for the information wasn't particularly bad value.

Perhaps I missed the bandwagon going past that is offering free whackings to the original poster. If the offer is not for you just move on.

    Hi S-S.

I simply object to people charging a fee, under any circumstances, for what available to all for free.

    Just my 1c worth.

I simply refuse to pay the 1c..... So I didn't read what you said...

However, as to Brooke's DVD offer, I'm a lazy bugger and would rather be in the shed instead of trawling through an Archived repository for info. Brooke is only making an offer and if you're not interested for whatever reason then don't buy...trawl instead. Just my freely given opinion.

    Hi Shedhand.

Perhaps I should apologize to all.

Trawling for information, has replaced television for me.

I don't want to ever see another, CSI, COOKING Show, Reality TV, or any more of that junk.
I see I have spoken harshly.

    So, I apologize.

Pay the money to the people who do the work, not to the people who spam over 1,100 web forums ( We carry an excellent woodworking collection – 145 books on DVD-Rom for $9.99 - Google Search ) to increase their googlerank above the original site that simply lets itself get indexed.

    Waterboarding's too good for spammers.

If you've ever had a search result that is full of utterly useless sites that simply republish content from other sites (hello, bigresource.com), that's the pinnacle of this sort of thing. Other people do the work, they want the money. Hummmm, sounds like record companies and movie studios.......
