Thanks for the info Brett. The jointer I have must be older then, it came NIB with a T1 blade.

I hadn't heard of a Tungsten shortage but I have heard that Cobalt prices are ramping up due to short supply and thus have been stocking up on M35 and M42 drill bits. Now I need to lay in a stock of TC spade bits for saw screw hole drilling...

I think that I'm going to order the A55 smoother and try planes this time, the fillister is tempting me. I'll let the beans simmer for a few more days and let you know.

I finally thought I was going to give the bank account a break and now this!

I think a pair of holdfasts are a certainty, and maybe a dado plane and pair of spokeshaves - however now I'm torn as I was planning on getting some spokeshaves at some stage but would have gone with a ringed gidgee, ebony or similar but now I need to actually weigh up the much larger price difference! Like I said, very cruel haha.

Something I need to point out with the Tail Vise:
Either length (100mm or 150mm travel) comes with a ¼" high Dog, which has a ½" shaft - which needs a ½" hole, maybe even 13mm.

I note that a number of people have ordered other size dog heights (1/8", ½", ¾") but only as singles.
You need two dogs of the same height! Otherwise Mr Plane is going to meet Mr Dog at one end or another of the board, and neither will win. You cannot use a ¼" dog at one end with a 1/8" dog at the other.......

Now you can operate these vises with Veritas (or similar) bench dogs, but of course they have a ¾" hole requirement, where the HNTs are ½" holes.
So, if you are confident that the other dogs will operate ok at ¼" or less height then you can order just one each of whatever height dog. Otherwise you need to order two - except the ¼" because one of those will come with the vise.

Following on from that, if you wish to use a combination of Veritas (or similar) dogs with HNT dogs, then you will have to have two lots of dog 'oles in the row. One lot of ¾" holes, and one lot of ½" hole in between them. That is no big deal of course, but.....

I've found the Veritas dogs work wunderbar in combination with Terry's tail vice. I have a single row of ¾" 'oles for the Veritas dogs and a couple different height dogs for the tail vice hole, and a couple of wooden dogs for each end. Easy to install to.

I've never measured it. Hold that thought. Don't go back I'll be right away.

EDIT: 1mm if the victim to be restrained is flat, 2mm is better.

Holdfasts update:
6 pairs confirmed, and another 3 pairs unconfirmed but indicated, so I would say we'll be right to reach the 10 pairs.

I'm definitely still in for the pair of holdfasts, just mulling the plane decision over.
