Thread: ANZAC Day - 25th April 2020 - We Will Remember Them, Lest We Forget

Wow, same here, about ten families on our street, more than half I reckon, in the dark too here in Bendigo, and cold. A lovely lady up the street in her 80's (Jean) still managed to play the Last Post via her Ipad and wireless speakers. Good on her! (Jean was the one who arranged it and dropped notes in everyone's letterbox yesterday to remind us. Can't wait to go visit her in person after this is all over)

However.... A house load of young men at the T intersection of my street (who always have a front yard full of hoon cars) restored my faith in humanity. They were out with candles and dawn service blearing out of the garage radio.

Made my eyes leak with pride for them.

We have an undercover area at our workers camp with a big projector screen; we played the AWM Dawn Service live and tried to congregate as best we could within the Social Distancing rules. We also had small pockets of guys clustered around an I-pad or a radio scattered around the camp areas. It was good to see.

We were out with several neighbours. A couple of them a little further away had fire pits going which made a great sight through the darkness. The sun then came up behind the houses with a light purple and gold colour showing through the branches of the large gum trees.
A very different but enjoyable Anzac Day

there was about 6 houses out in our quiet cul-de-sac street. Was quite a different ceremony than the usual dawn service (I don't regularly go) but actually if anything more powerful, because there were more people from our street out than would normally have made the effort to go to the local ceremony, this seemed to make it "easier"... In fact this could be a great thing for the longer term support of many more Australians!

Ladies and Gents All, Thank you for the very encouraging replies confirming the turn outs in your streets.

The normal local Dawn Service over 35 years ago when I first started regularly attending had about 30 people and a cassette player.

It slowly grew over the years as folk started to attend regularly and one had to get there well before 5.30am to get close to the memorial its self.

Last year there was a couple of thousand along with the local Salvation Army band who have been for the past 10-15 years providing a good bulgier for the Last Post.

It seems extremely strange not to be marching today for the 11.00am memorial service with 4-5000 locals lining our towns main street.

BUT

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM, LEST WE FORGET!

And we have with respect, honour and dignity for their sacrifice both Aussie's and Kiwi's alike!
