To whom it may concern,

I am writing to enquire as to whether anyone on this forum would consider taking on a 1st year apprentice cabinet maker in 2013.

I am 32 years old, married with one son and another due in 3 weeks. I grew up on a 15,000 acre farm in Warren, NSW, and spent the early part of my life doing manual labour when I wasn't at school. On my Dad's insistence I did a university degree after high school and spent 10 years working in the corporate world as an executive recruitment consultant.

I have never gained the same sense of satisfaction from a hard days work in an office as I do from working with my hands.

As such, I resigned form my recruitment career in November last year to focus on the next stage in my life. I am financially independent for the next 12 months, as I have enough money to support my family and pay the mortgage. I am not looking to be paid for the first year of my apprenticeship, rather, I wish to learn from the best. I am only interested in being an apprentice to a master craftsman who specialises in hand made, traditional style or modern furniture. Antique style furniture, dove tail joints, hand planing, all the old style cabinet making skills are what I want to learn.

I am keen to have a discussion with whoever might have the work and/or the inclination to take on a mature apprentice who is hard working and committed. Even better, I would love to meet you for a coffee. I live in Forest Lodge, next door to Glebe in Sydney, and can come to see you wherever you work as long as it is in Sydney.

Please let me know if you are interested in a mature age apprentice who is committed, intelligent, focused, fit, healthy and willing to work free of charge for 12 months. Most of all I am eager to learn.

Regards,

Alex Brennan
