    Default All new AUCTION Forum

Very shortly there will be a new forum added....

    AUCTIONS

    • This new forum will in time totally replace the Market Place.
    • Market Place will be closed to new posts once Auctions Forum goes live.
(you will still be able to finalise sales that are already in there but all new sales will have to go into the Auction Forum)
    • All sales will be Auctions with the option to Buy Now.
    • There will be the same categories as before:
MARINE MARKET - METALWORK / MACHINERY & EQUIPMENT - MISCELLANEOUS - MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS - TIMBER SALES & MILLING EQUIPMENT - WOODWORK - TOOLS & MACHINERY All these will be auctions.
    • There will also be 2 forums under Classifieds: SWAP or FREE - WANTED TO BUY
    • For the first time there will also be a COMMERCIAL ADVERTISEMENTS Section for paid ads. (Pricing to be finalised)
    • There is no charge for any of the other ads. However sellers can if they wish pay for extras below:

    Rotate 125x125 banner - $3.00
This will randomly display a banner of your last uploaded
image in category page, resized to 125x125
Feature in Forum home Sidebar - $5
Your listing will be displayed in forum main page sidebar
Listing Highlighted with a different class - $2.00
Your listing will stand out with a highlighted class in category page.
Feature Listing on Category Page - $2.00
Your listing will appear on top in category pages (stick listing)
    Listing bold - $1.00
Your listing will stand out from others in category pages with a bold link

    • Sellers will have a choice of receiving payment via: PayPal - Direct Deposit - EFT - Cheque - Cash
Seller must have PayPal account to accept PayPal payments.
    • Buyers will also have the same choices of payment depending on the sellers choice of payment.
    • Sellers will now be able to edit their post/listing eg: Upgrade Listing, Increase/Lower Reserve Price, Edit Buy Now Price, Close listing, Extend Listing, Promote Auction and more.
This will be a dramatic difference to how the Market Place was run.

Rules will be something like this.... Buyer beware. Seller beware.

All buyers will have to agree to the following Bidder Terms and Conditions before they can place a bid:

By placing a bid, you acknowledge and agree that this site is not involved in or a party to the actual transaction between buyers and sellers and cannot enforce or be involved in settlement of transactions. While this site has policies in place and advisors and mentors to review activities on this site, this site has no control over the legality, quality or safety of items or content posted by members on our site, the truth or accuracy of listings, the ability of or legal right of sellers to sell items or the legal or financial ability of buyers to buy items. This site cannot ensure and does not guarantee that a member of this site will actually complete a transaction or act lawfully in using this site.

    You further agree that:

    • You accept the Auction Rules, the Auction Guidelines, and this site Privacy Policy.
    • You may receive communications from this site and this site can disclose your contact details to the auction holder if you are the winning bidder and that it is your responsibility to keep your contact details up to date.
    • Should you win the auction, you will contact the auction holder within 72 hours of the end of the auction to arrange payment. After 72 hours, you may lose your claim over the property, and the seller may choose to re-list the property for sale.

I'm sure users will fins a multitude of things to talk about, complain about or maybe even praise when the new Auction site goes live.Try not to be too harsh it's all for the good of the members and the forums in the long run.

    Cheers - Neil

    Default interesting

Look forward to trying it. In time it may become a real winner for both the forum member buyers and those with various items to sell.

    Default postal charges?

Sellers should be "encouraged" to state a P&P fee in their listing if willing to post. The first reply to many listings in the market place is, "How much to post to XXXX?"

Stating P&P up-front would result in more quick, smooth sales.

You want to buy a 'd' maybe, our just swap it for an 's'?

    I like the idea.

    Hi
If you look at the screen shot in the first post on the right hand side it says reserve met so I think that will mean the answer to your question is yes

Very interesting Neil! I have some items to sell shortly and will give it a go if it is up and running by then!
    Homesy135 has a point regarding the P&H.

I'm not convinced auctions are the only way to go. For whatever reason clearly not ever sale on here is at 'market' value, mostly I think intentionally. I believe not everyone wants to necessarily just sell to the highest bidder or get rid of it quick and therefore may not want to use an auction scenario.

However there is often a problem with the current market place that people miss out because it is strictly first in first served and not everyone has the luxury of sitting on a feed watching new items for sale. I would like to see an expression of interest style sale. In that case a seller could list an item for sale at a price and give a fixed time for interested buyers to discover the sale, say a few days. At the end of the sale period a winner could then be drawn out of the hat from those who have expressed interest.

    Default Extras

I do not have a PayPal account, nor am I able to do EFT of direct Deposit.
If I run an add and want an Extra, eg. Feature Listing on Category Page - $2.00, how do I pay for it?

Sounds like a great way to sell items that are hard to price.

    Homesy135 has a point regarding the P&H.
In a perfect world this would be ideal. However it's pretty hard to give P&H when you don't know where the item is going to end up and postage could range from $20 - $60 or more across this vast country.

There is provision to say P&H is included in price or purchaser can organise their own or negotiate later.

As for reserve, yes as per nosnow's reply there is a reserve price.
Bidding is traditional. What you bid is what you bid. This is not ebay so don't put a massive price on thinking the auction will progress in $1 or $2 bids until your limit is reached.

The Auction scenario has a Buy Now option so if a buyer wants to buy without taking part in the auction side of things then he/she can do that and the whole thing comes to an end. By the same token if a seller wants to sell at a set price then he can set a Buy Now price and hope someone will buy it straight up. Buy Now is not compulsory but an option.

Sounds interesting.... But not feasible. Don't know of any newspaper or selling site that would do, does or has done that. This is a section for selling not for running a raffle.

Might have to revert to old fashioned cash or cheque, or just stick with a standard listing

Sounds like a great way to sell items that are hard to price.
    Dead right there Jack
Any other questions, problems or thoughts please feel free to air them here.
If you have any suggestions please make then reasonable. We will probably not be able to change things too much without causing some major problems and/or headaches.

There are some things we just can't do as the program is pretty tight and is not supported by the developers.
It has been almost 2 years since it was purchased and there have been many, many, many hours put in by Steven to get it working properly.

This new section is purely a service to you the members of Woodwork Forums and you should think of it as running the same way as classifieds in a newspaper. Ad gets put in, buyer contacts seller, seller takes buyers money, buyer takes sellers goods. End of Story.
What part did the newspaper play in this. They provided the classifieds section in the newspaper and the distribution.
What part does the forums play in the Auctions/sales, section. We provide the venue and the distribution. No more no less. The End.

    Try it out:
There is one Auction going in there as a test for people to play with. Will probably get out of hand if it hasn't already but it gives you an idea of how it works.

    Two weeks trial:

For the next week we will allow test ads in for you to try it out but any tests ads must be clearly and boldly labelled with:
WARNING THIS IS A TEST NOT A REAL SALE.

Genuine ads may also be entered during the 2 week trial period.

Saturday 13th September all test ads will be removed and only genuine ads will be accepted from then on.

    Cheers - Neil

There is a bit of overlap on the text on the menu bar.

Trying to get into the sub forum on an iPad and all I get is a pop up saying tapatalk has encountered a problem or my session has expired, try entering via the account tab or if the problem persists, contact the administrators.

Tried a number of different ways to access the sub forum but its not happening.

What is wrong or what am I doing wrong?
