Unhappy Australian Furniture Timbers (AFT/Melbourne) closing down, auction this Thursday 12/6

    Ahh...

The end of an era.. AFT are shutting down. Everything is going to auction this Thursday @ 11am on site, timber, machinery, and everything from the office it seems.

It's not often that I'd say that I'm sorry I'm not in Melbourne around this time of year......but I'm sorry I won't be there on Thursday. Looks like there may be some good buys.

Blimey... Spent many hours down at Plummer St rummaging through timber looking for the best boards for furniture, carving, turning, etc. Definitely the end of an era.

Always remember what was called the bosses retirement fund hidden away in the shed behind the office some of the choicest pieces of timber ever seen. Haven't been there for many years now sad to see it go, but I guess everything has to come to an end sooner or later.

    Cheers - Neil

Lester, the boss, says that business has dropped off dramatically over the past few years, with schools not buying as much and many commercial furniture makers no longer in operation. Spare a thought for Anthony, the guy behind the counter, he has always been very helpful when you had questions about timbers and what was in stock. He would go through the piles of timber and pull out exceptional boards, which he put on display in the office. I don't know what he will do now.
I've got some boxes on display down there, wonder if I can get them back?
It is the end of an era. many timbers that were hard to get were there. I really am sad for several reasons.
    See ya AFT.

Very sad indeed. Seems like very tough times in HQ & rare timber. In FNQ mills & timber suppliers are closing too. Nothing like it once was.

Hi Andrew I'm interested in what the section sizes and pack lot quantities are for the Blackbutt, Tas Oak & Blackwood. Whereabouts in Melbourne would inspection/pickup be?

Anthony Griffiths a former employee of AFT is trading as TIMBER LORD, phone 0411 640 658, he purchased the best of AFT when it closed down.
He's slowly building up the business. I have no interest in the business, but he helped me get some Jelutong at the right price. John.
