If anybody gets to the Exhibition, I sent down four entries. Maybe some one can see if they got there and what happened please.

The exhibits seem to be generally smaller this year?
Guess I'll find out for myself soon, soon...

That would be Ken Wraight, and he does seem to have way too much time on his hands. Technically brilliant but doesn't seem to be my idea of wood turning to be honest, it is more sculpture or model making to me. He pretty much wins awards every year and there is a theory that he has made competition impossible in some ways. But the flip side of that is that he brings a greater desire and level of skill to others work.
He has 5 pieces entered this year, I prefer his identical pair entry more, a pair of lidded boxes titled "Sting Rays" in Red Mallee Burl and Ancient Red Gum, again technically brilliant but more my idea of turned wood.

I spent three hours on "door duties" (Friday) selling raffle tickets
and taking orders for DVDs. The banter between those in attendance
was worth the $5.00 entry without even looking at the entries.
The range of entries was utterly fantastic. From the intricate work
of Ken Wraight to the regular "brake drum" bowls that some of us make
there was plenty to see. Skew might be surprised to find there are
some quite large entries and are well worth a look.
It has certainly put my mind into "inspirational" mode and hopefully
one day I might see one of my entries on the tables.
