The Benevolent Dictator's thoughts
Some musings from me, for anyone interested enough to read them.
In recent months the amount of emails an pm's I get has increased to around 30 or more per day that actually have to be physically dealt with. Many of these can be dealt with by the sender using their own resources and in some instances their brains. - Neil

MUSE 1:
A simple joke can get out of hand, especially as not everyone shares or understands our great Aussie humour. To some it's seen as a personal attack, to others a waste of time and space and others.... well some of us'll actually get it and roll round the floor in stitches or spurt coffee all over their monitor.
If members want to have a joke at the expense of another you'd best make sure it's someone who can laugh at themselves and will see the funny side.... eventually. Otherwise you could end up being visited by a couple of big burly Boys in Blue or even worse by the person who bore the brunt of the joke and that probably wouldn't be funny.

MUSE 2:
We have had a run of personal attacks via email and pm's on members by other members recently. These are usually reported via email to me and never see the light of day on the forums because they are dealt with quietly in the background.
I think it's about time some people started taking responsibility for their remarks and their own stupidity and sorted out their own problems instead of running to the administrators because someone has hit back at a hurtful comment, person attack or smart arzzed reply to a post.
If you reply to, or comment on a post in a threatening or agro way, expect to cop some flack, if you can't handle being replied to in an agressive way, don't comment or at least think before you do.
Not everyone will turn the other cheek and say hit me again. Human nature says if you're hit hit back, but some take it one step further and hit back, and hit back, and hit back then start kicking. I have no time for this sort of person and there is no place on the forums for them either.
At least make an attempt to get along and if someone gets up your nose don't fight with them put them on your ignore list then to you they'll no longer exist.
_____________________________________________
It's everyone's right (if not responsibility) to report a post as soon as they feel there's a problem, be it in the wrong place, spam, a personal attack or anything else that you feel shouldn't be posted. Report it and leave the moderators to deal with it.
Don't sit back and wait for someone else to do it as it may never get done. Not everyone cares, or even notices there's a problem, unless it's blatantly obvious. Act straight away and there shouldn't be a problem.
DO NOT send emails or pm's to the administrators or moderators as we don't always see them for quite a while. Report the post and it will immediately come up in the Administrators Forum and be dealt with by the first one to see it. Much quicker and easier for everyone to do that way.
MUSE 4: Nah that's enough musing for one message.
The info below is about reporting posts, it's taken from the Announcement: REPORTING POSTS - You can help. found atop every forum display page, and so far viewed over 20,600 times. Obviously some people have either missed it, didn't remember it or are just don't care. So here it is again for the benefit of those who fall into any of those categories.
_____________________________________________
On the bottom line of each Post, under the posters info you will see this symbol click on it if you ever need to report a post or thread to the Administrators and Moderators.
Some valid reasons to report posts: hijacked thread, incorrect forum, duplicated post, spam, , inappropriate adult content, drivel or nonsense posts that detract from the thread, personal attacks, defamatory and slanderous statements against individuals, businesses, race, religion, politics, etc.
All reported posts will be given due consideration and dealt with as the moderators deem to be fitting and appropriate. Just because a post is reported doesn't mean any specific action will be taken.
Frivolous and mischievous reporting of posts will not be tolerated and could result in the reporter receiving infractions or reduction of forum privileges.

Muse 6, to follow on from Muse 5, and to (mis)quote a famous Australian movie "you gotta have a sense of humour" Ok, a really bad misquote, but I said it in the required accent.
These forums distinguish themselves from many others out there BECAUSE there is still a light hearted (and dare I say, traditionally Australian) slant to the forums, and that includes a slightly twisted (and ever present) sense of humour.
If you take everything overly seriously, you are not going to get the best out of this place."Clear, Ease Springs"

Time for a change to the membership conditions??
[x] Grounds for immediate termination of membership:
[x.1] Thin skin
[x.2] Whinging (especially about lawyers and/or police)
[x.3] More than X complaints to moderators in a one-month period
One of the great things about this forum is that you can have a robust discussion on one thread and a laugh in another ... often involving exactly the same people.... as long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation. Yeah, I've never got this whining to the moderators business. Some people take themselves too seriously I think.
I can imagine there's a good chance I might have been the subject of some of these complaints in the past. It doesn't bother me, although I'm sorry if anyone has had to field a complaint about me. But really, aren't we all a bit old to be running to the teacher when someone calls us names?"I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."

Gra, you misrepresented me. You'll hear from my lawyer tomorrow.
*grin*
I meant whinging TO, not whinging ABOUT. I'm the victim of a 70s Victorian education. Can I sue them?... as long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation. (A.Hitler)

Stuart absolutely nailed it. Provided it is clear that it applies to both sides of the fence.

Even a furriner can delight in the Aussie sense of humour. The forum is often like a friendly game of darts in a pub, with some gentle ribbing, etc.
One of the most hilarious threads developed when someone discovered an online "insult generator" about a year or more ago. (Might have been trashed after a while; search for it if you like.) IIRC, after about 20 posts, one bloke figured out it was only a game that he'd been taking seriously until then. The only harm done was probably several mouthfuls of coffee sprayed on monitors and keyboards.

I always thought the smilies were to show whether you were serious or not.
or meant the prior was tounge in cheek or a friendly dig.
Like sitting round the BBQ, glass in hand, slinging off at each other in the usual Aussie way.
Oh well, life is too short to be serious about much.
We all end up leaving in the same way..
