    Default A bit more notice

I was a bit disappointed in the notice given in regards to
"TIMBER & WORKING WITH WOOD SHOW"
I missed Sydney, Canberra and my home state Adelaide
It was only through browsing, I found there is a show in Melbourne
So I tried to book a Motel, but found the Caufield Cup, a Motor Show
and a few other thingy's are goin' on...
So I shot down the Travel Centre and "ALL"S WELL" I'll be there,
I don't want to sound like an old whinger but could you please put
NOTICES UP A BIT EARLIER PLEEEEEEEZE

    With Kind Regards
    Heuy

    Default Sorry

Sorry that you have missed some events but I think the issue might be at your end.

There is a dedicated Woodwork Shows forum here, first posts I found for this years events on the front page were started in early April. There may have been earlier posts on other pages.

There is a forum for SPECIAL DEALS For MEMBERS here, First posts relating to Camberra and Melbourne shows are early April.

Then, when I read your message there was a graphic for the shows in the adds column on the right side of the screen, but things rotate there so it would not be there all of the time.

But I do think it's a bit abrupt to complain about lack of notice about major events that have been getting coverage for a few months at least.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

Hate to be a pain in the poop shoot but there have been ongoing notices - big yellow and bold - at the top of the forums off and on since April for each of the shows.

There is one ongoing now for Canberra which has been up for around 4 weeks and you only would not have seen it if you had dismissed it. Then there's the posts in this forum along with the ones in the TIMBER & WORKING WITH WOOD SHOWS. How much more notice do you need.

If you log on without being logged in then there''s a bigun (yep yellow blue n red) that's hard to miss for the last few weeks and has just been replaced with a new one that's counting down the sleeps until Canberra. The same as the one at the top of all forums now unless you have clicked on the X in the top right corner of the notice.

    We do our best.

There is a Woodies Events Forum but that's mostly for club events and other stuff. The T&WWWShows have their own forum.

    Cheers - Neil

PS There was no T&WWWShow in Adelaide and as far as I know, the mob that run the other show over there don't use the forums. Not much we can do about that.

    Default events calendar?

I do not know if this is possible with the forum software but what about an events calendar? something whereby you can see an overview of what is happening on a given day, week or month, not in a thread format.

Have a reasonable timeframe set in advance so that say the next 18 months of events are viewable.

Make it so that members can post events of interest to other members, stating what the event is and its location, and make it a clickable link to take it to either a website or a post on the forum giving further information.

It is not the forum or its leaders who are responsible for notifying us of events anyway, as the OP seems to suggest; it is the role of the event organizers. If this was done it puts the ball back squarely in their court.

    Cheers

There are dates in the Calendar for Canberra & Melbourne.

Unfortunately we can't highlight anything on the calendar so they're not always that easy to spot unless you look hard but they are there.

Canberra isn't too bad to spot as the birthdays have gone to one line making it easier to see. Sunday is still among the birthdays and could be missed in a quick scan.

Melbourne is almost hidden if you don't know what you're looking for.

I think that if you you were really interested you would know when the shows were on. There all occur around the same time each year. Besides this forum, most of the woodworker magazines also have been publishing the show dates. For example Impressive Exhibitions (the organisers of the T&WWS) have regular full page advertisements in the Australian Woodworker mag listing the upcoming T&WWS's and all the details.
