Yeah, i found getting her to read
http://billpentz.com/woodworking/cyc...dicalrisks.cfm
sorted the issue out pretty quick, but it's sort of my job (i almost earn a living) so i'm in the workshop between 3 and 10 hours a day,
When i read this and thought 'that's me'-flu-like illness with cough; Subacute: recurrent "pneumonia"; Chronic: exertional dyspnea, productive cough, and weight loss; along with cardiac arrhythmia.
I thought "sod this for a game of soldiers" and i'm a full on convert.
I know there's other things happening in my life, but i reckon that you start with the obvious and work down

I decided to go ahead and buy one by myself Hugh. I've already paid for it. Should be here in a few weeks.
I'm sorry mate. I'm just running out of time. Hope your not too cross.
thankyou though. Its been your posts on cyclones thats got me interested.
My boss was going to get into the group thing. Then I said I can't wait anymore. So he's out too. He'll get one though once he sees mine working I'm guessing (competitive bugger)
But I did try eh. spent a good deal of time on the computer going through those motors trying to post them to the screen. Trying to make conversation. No one responded to my posts about the motors. And I've also offered to go and pick them up. Didn't seem to be any enthusisam for that either.
I think Ed's doing as much as he can from his side. Its this side that needs a kick up the bum.. Definetly significant savings to be made in a group buy. And its a top machine ! The machine beats the crap out of anything here for shore with a similar price. I think I'm getting a bargain even though I'm paying extra going solo.
In anycase, I hope it works out.

Apricotripper good for you. Everyone has different expectations, requirements and timeframes and comes a time when individual decisions must be made.
Out of interest can you share with us what you ordered and cost. Also would be interested to know shipping arrangements and issues, if any, with Aus taxes and Customs.
Good luck - pictures on arrival mandatory.

Ta Hitch.
here's what I'm paying...
CV1800 RH combo / Leeson 5hp 3phase motor ……………………………………….. 1045.00<o></o>
16” Blower & Impeller …………………………………………………………………………. 80.00<o></o>
Shipping to Brisbane Air Port …………………………………………………………………….. 596.16<o></o>
Total ………………………………………………………………………………………..1721.16<o></o>
Amounts to something just over $2000 Australian.
I don't need filters. Its going to sit outside something like in the picture (from Ed's site)
I'll have to make up a sealed bin though. something sizable like an old wheely bin I'm thinking.
No filters also means I needn't worry about overflow of the bin filling the filters (which would bound to happen with me at least once)
Have to see relatives in Brisbane. So will pick it up then.
Let you know what I have to pay when I get to the airport.
The other thing I'll have to work out is Blast gates and I'll be using 150mm pipe, which turns out to be about $70 for 6metre lengths. Probably buy a couple of lengths. And will probably have to work out how to go from 150mm to the cyclones 6"....thinking of doing that by boiling the connection and pushing it over a 6" fitting. Remember a bloke doing something like that in Ed's site too.
And since its 3 phase I'll need to buy a starter motor as well. I'm not sure what there worth. I'll just get the electrician to do that when he wires up my new shed.
I think thats about it. But I'll have a powerful dust extractor to cover all my machines.

Thanks Apricotripper - sounds good.
You are fortunate to have the 3phase option. As for many here I guess, where I want to install a strong system 3phase power is not available.
If you have the time and inclination a WIP of your installation process would be great.

I'll take some photos when I get there. no worries.
Sorry, meant 'motor starter' ..I didn't know what it was either. Ed put me straight ......here...
Jake,
A motor starter is like a relay or magnetic switch. It has a coil that pulls some contacts closed when the coil is energized. It also has heaters in it that are set to the max current draw of the motor (thermal overload protection). They keep the motor from burning up if it is overloaded. Our single phase motor has a built in thermal overload but 3 phase motors don’t. You can check with an electrical supply house. They should be familiar with motor starters. If you have 240V 1phase, that is what the coil on the starter will need to be. You can also do a google search for Motor Starters.
We've got them on the wall at work I think. Wires going into and out of a box. Simple sort of circuitry its sounds like. <O</O

OK, that makes sense ... I was picturing a smaller motor spinning the big motor ...
Talk to the sparkie doing the 3 phase setup and see what your options are, as there are a few different types of starters (eg. DOL [Direct OnLine], electronic soft starters, Wye/Delta starters ... ).Cheers.
Vernon.

I'm curious... Did anyone buy or going to buy one of these? The current exchange rate would be a killer.
