    Default The Castlemaine Swap Meet.

Hi to all You Collectors & Buyers of Good Stuff,

So after you go to the Ballarat Wood Show, on Sat. 31st. March, 2012, you can slip across some good looking Country to Castlemaine Swap Meet on Sun. 1st. April.
This Swap is One of the Best In The State.
It is an easy walk for those of us who are getting a bit longer in the tooth.
I think it was $6 last year to Enter, & you need to be early to get a Car Park, other wise you have a further walk.
    Regards,
    issatree.

Went to the Castlemaine Swap meet today.
Guess who I ran into? He was eying off this rusty old metal lathe, when I said somthin like "never seen that brand before" to which he replied something like "you should have a look at the Australian Woodwork forum, there are lots of members who know lots about these things". " I do", I said, "what's your forum name?" "issatree" he replied, "nice to meet you! It's because of your post I'm here - mine is 'jhovel'". "Ah", he replied, "I've been reading some of your posts...."
(or words to that effect) - small world, huh?

This meet is a good size - big enough to have variety and small enough to see everything within a few hours without getting worn out.

I was nearly tempted to spend money I don't have. In particular the pair of granite parallels REALLY tempted me at $120...
I saw 4 precision levels in various states of repair, plus TWO square precision levels. The dirty one was $150 and the nice one $250.
The guy who had them also had a few other goodies.
He gave me his phone number and e-mail address, if anyone is interested in anything you see there, just PM me.

In the end I only bought a few old spanners and a Jenny leg caliper and some bolts.

Here is also the lathe that got Lewis and I to meet. It's "The Keen"....

Had a look at that one too, nice bit of old kit

Overall there wasn't that much machinery/tooling about, seems that every year this (and other) swap meet is moving away from that sort of thing. One reason for that seems to be more women sellers and buyers.

Lots of "rusty bits" for the garden etc.

    Default The Swap.

    Hi All,
Well It's all been Reported, &, Yes it was rather Strange that JHovel & I met at the Older "The Keen" Metal Lathe, & had a No. attached being 302. I thought the Seller was asking $450, & a fair bit of TLC was going to be needed.
About more Lady Sellers, I found an Item, that I Collect, took it out of the Glass case, asked the Price & she took it put it under the Table, & said I couldn't buy it as it never had it's Price Tag on it. It was the only one I had seen all day, & I was pretty Ticked Off.
It should have been under $10.
All in All it was a great day, & I bought a few nice Pieces, & got out of there for just under $50. The Entry + Food & Drink, took up part of my $'s.
When you enter the Centre of the Ground, it was like walking on a Carpet, + Beautiful & Green.

The Castlemaine Swap is one of the Top Swaps in the State, so put down the 1st. Sunday in April, 2013.

On leaving the Venue I Spotted a few smallish Branches, & the Lady come out & told me it was " Irish Strawberry Tree ". So I took what was there, & I've promised to make something for her, from the Wood, which she believed the tree to be 120 years old. The House was like I think would have been a Miners Cottage. Sadly the wood has started to split already.
    Regards,
    issatree.
