Central Coast NSW woodworking club
I live on the Central Coast of NSW (as do about 250,000 other people) and am looking for people interested in woodwork to possibly set a group together.
At present the CC has a very well respected woodturner club and a triton users group but not a general woodworkers group where ideas, learning and the enjoyment of furniture making can be had (maybe even swap meets).
The CC is under-represented in timber-merchants who deal in exotic woods and also merchants who "specialise" in woodworking tools.
I am one of a group of five who are friends that pursue this hobby, maybe there is interest from others so that we could formalise a club??
I believe there could be a woodworking teacher on the coast who may be interested in setting up a woodworking school after he retires in the not to distant future (he may need a little coaxing).
Any interest?

Arthur,
To set up a woodwork club is a bit of work, you need to have a constitution and be registered and insured etc. All the red tape detracts from the original desire - to participate in woodwork activities.
The Council of Woodwork Clubs (voluntary organisation) can greatly assist you with the red tape and insurance for your club and put you in touch with other clubs so you can learn form their mistakes and good ideas.
I am involved with the Council of Woodwork Clubs and if you send me a personal message or an EMAIL, I will help you start rolling with your new club.
Neil has kindly allowed the Council of Woodwork Clubs to use this Bulletin Board so if you look under the Council of Woodwork Clubs heading, you can download some of the past newsletters etc.
Good luck and I look forward to hearing from you soon.- Wood Borer

Arthur - good idea
Even if a formal club doesn't eventuate, Termite's idea of a get-together could probably achieve a lot of the same aims anyway if we make it a regular event.
So my vote: Let's set up something. So how about next weekend, and then a different place once a month or so? I'll volunteer my place to kick off if you like.

Arthur - Why not do what many others have done, join with the turners club and ask them to form a separate general woodworking interest group. Most General Woodworking clubs also have Woodturning interest groups etc and some of the woodturners clubs have changed to be general woodworking clubs. Why try going it alone when you already have a resource that is in place and probably willing to compromise.
Give it a try. You have nothing to lose and the existing club has a lot to gain.
Cheers - Neil

Arthur
It sounds like a good idea to me, I am more of a scroller than a furniture maker. I have been wanting to make a few smallish furniture items again as I havent really done anything in that area since high school where I made a corner tv cabinet. Perhaps a group like this could help me get back into it and eliminate any swearing coming from me
Are you a member of the CCWT's club? we have a carvers and scrollers group formed under their banner and that helps us be covered by their insurance. Perhaps at one of the meetings you could state your interest in forming another side group. They meet at the old entrance high school (forget what its new name is) in the dolphin theatre the first friday of each month. Plus they have a great workshop up at Kariong although there are too many of those lathe things in there
Daryl,
Sounds good to me although I have to work this coming Saturday.
Have recently moved and dont have a shed anymore so my place wouldnt be suitable for a gathering unfortunatelyBrett

Looks like next weekend would be a better idea - Arthur is working this weekend, and I've just had the unpleasant experience of seeing the mess after my workshop got flooded AGAIN today
Next Saturday afternoon OK with everyone? The Australian Woodworkers Database - over 3,500 Aussie Woods listed: http://www.aussiewoods.info/

Well we had the first get together on Saturday. Present were DarrylF (host), Oges and Termite. We had a good time but it was disapointing that there were not more woodies turn up. If more interest is shown over the next few weeks then I will host a get together at my place at Gorokan, if no interest is shown then whats the point.
