Change to Bushfire Appeal donation.
After long, hard and careful consideration, it has been decided that all the monies raised here for the Bushfire Appeal will now be going to Blaz Aaid and not to Red Cross as was originally suggested. By donating to this cause we know exactly where the money is going, what it'll be used for and the good that it's doing for people in need.
Blaze Aid is one man on the ground, organising re-fencing of burnt out farms, to contain surviving stock. He's recruited volunteer fencers from all over Australia, Peru, Chile, England, New Zealand and next week some are flying in from Texas. There are many hundreds of miles of burned out fences to be rebuilt and repaired after the fire .
Unfortunately they're getting the run-around from authorities, and although he has some sponsorship, he's having great problems getting any Government or Red Cross help.
The few thousand dollars we've raised here won't mean anything at all to the Red Cross, when added to the millions they already have. However it will mean a hell lot to this really worthwhile and vital group of volunteers.
Don Naples, donor of the the Auction along with the winning bidder, have both agreed all the money raised from the Auction should go to Blaz Aaid.
Please take a look at this site Blazeaid.com for more information and if you can spare the time and muscle, maybe you'd even like to volunteer to do a bit of fencing with them.
If anyone who donated by purchasing caps has a problem with this, please make your feeling known by posting in this thread. (Please bare in mind that around 65% of the money raised from the sale of the caps and to be paid out will be coming out of my pocket.)
Cheers - Neil
PS If you want to donate to Bladeaid via the Forums without buying a cap please post your name below and you'll be contacted re payment details.

I think it's brilliant. A real person doing a real job to rebuild.
Cheers,

,
on a personal note, my stepson and his young family have been the beneficiaries of the fantastic work done by Blaze aid.
Thanks to any members who gave to this worthwhile cause.
Some good strong youths from a Mazenod College stripped out a few Km of fencing about 4 or 5 weeks ago...what a terrific team of kids....they worked real hard. And then another team of volunteers came with an experienced contractor to rebuild the fences. This was a great help to them in their efforts to recover and build.
By a strange set of circumstances they aren't entitled to much of the assistance being given out, however Blaze aid recognized their loss, and their needs, and have been very helpful.
Four months of the hardest work I've done since I was a kid, and we have them back into a new house, and got a certificate of occupancy 2 weeks ago...with the inspector there as I was grouting and finishing up the tiled areas.
Regards,
Peter

Backdooring it.
A job well done.
After ten months of helping rebuild fences lost in the Black Saturday bushfires, BlazeAid finished its fencing program in mid-December 2009.
BlazeAid’s work over these many months could not have been achieved without the generosity of the many donors, sponsors, volunteer groups, individuals and businesses who have assisted us with tools and equipment, food, accommodation and billeting, transport and hands-on support in the fire zones. We are extremely grateful for their wonderful support and thank them most sincerely
