Default Festool Domino on Sale in England

Axminster Tools is selling the Festool DF 500 Q-Plus for $1600 including postage. Axminster is a very large tool retailer in Britain. I have dealt with them and found them helpful and reliable

I don't know how much a $200.00 saving is worth to members but as far as I can see the Q-Plus is not offered in Australia and all the extras add roughly another $300.00 so at $500.00 it may start to be an attractive proposition.

I wonder how long before a Festool Australia troll finds fault.

    Before finding fault

    • I am not on a commission there is nothing in it for me.
    • It is illegal for anyone not an electrician to change a plug [despite the fact that Bunnings sells them with instructions] but a UK to AU adapter is not a problem
    • But the warranty, the ACCC has dealt with this one before.

    Cheers

Whilst you can look at the prices for Festool in AU dollars on Axminsters website, they do not let you add Festool items to your cart, I have tried numerous times.

With free shipping on orders over $200 Axminster is actually a great option for me, especially as they deliver to my door rather than the post office like most AU deliveries. I have a couple of items in my basket at the moment, if I could add a couple of Festool items that would be awesome, but I can’t.

If the lead is detachable, then you can obtain at your local Festool dealer a replacement lead with an Australian plug. No adaptor required. No wiring required. Just make sure the lead you buy will suit the machine.

About 5 or 6 years ago, I purchased a new DF500 on eBay from an Italian seller with a Euro machine. It came with a UK plug. The reason I purchased it was that it was $1000 and just missed import duty, and so it was a great deal (better than 2/3 the retail cost). What I had to forgo was the warrantee - Festool do not warrant tools from other countries.

I replaced the cord with a local one, rather than replace the plug, as I was nervous of something going wrong (it was still an expensive tool). Earlier this year I picked up a Festool jigsaw cheaply as it came without the cord. I simply replaced the UK plug on the original DF500 cord, and this has been perfect.

    Regards from Perth

I've just checked. $1450 inc post to Aus (UK VAT gets deducted), although there are a few varieties.

And, at risk of sounding like a stuck record:
Axminster price to aus includes all taxes and duties. What you pay at checkout is what you pay.
You CAN get most Fe$tool items from Axminster - it involves some sleight of hand. More recently the trickery has failed on some bigger items like tracksaws, but I was able to get all the way to the bit where I'd have to hit 'pay' with the Domino.

Prices on the Axminster website already include GST.

Bernmc is spot on. Last year when I purchased my Mafell jigsaw from Axminster I did not have to pay another dollar over and above what they charged me.

I signed up to Axminster and according to the website they now won't ship to Australia for Mafell and Festool products. A few days ago the cart would allow shipping but not now.

Perhaps the local merchants have put a spanner in the works seeing as how this topic is highlighted for all to see.Festool used to have constaints on purchase outside of your domiciled country unless you bought whilst on the ground overseas.I bought a longlife bag for my dust collector whilst overseas saved a few $$$ .

It’s worth noting that if you don’t like the Retail Price Maintenance scheme that the ACCC granted to Tooltechnic, the importer of Festool and Fein, you can write to both Tooltecnic and the ACCC. Tooltechnic have to report all complaints to the ACCC and the RPM can be revoked at any time if the ACCC believes it is no longer warranted.
    Read about it here:
Tooltechnic Systems (Aust) Pty Ltd - RPM20181 | ACCC
The ACCC received many submissions from Dealers who are very happy with the scheme and detail the benefits.

However, the fact that you can import an item from the other side of the world, pay shipping, duties and GST and still be significantly cheaper indicates that someone is collecting large margins somewhere.

It seems that most Festool products are mostly purchased by people in trades rather that hobbies and the benefit of a local dealer with stock often outweighs the incremental cost of items. This has been reflected in the ACCC’s decision.

Of course you could check out the exciting promotions offered for Festool locally:

Festool apply domestic & export market restrictions world wide not just UK / Australia from what I understand, it certainly applies to UK / North America.

I bought the XL from Total tools for $2,058 and it arrived today. It must be a display model because there is some visible rust. There is one left on the website if you are interested.

Is it just me, or are there pictures of two different models shown in that ad?
