Fisher discounts sale this weekend (Canberra)
Just a heads-up for people that Fisher Discounts in Fyshwick, Canberra, is having their sale on this weekend.
I'm going out to look for a little (7 1/4"/185mm) circular saw to cutup ply and MDF panels. It has to have a dust extractor mount point - if anyone had any comment of which one they would recommend please do so before tomorrow!
I may also look for a deal on a cheap 2hp 40litre compressor rather than waiting for Bunnings next $100 deal.
Oh, and maybe an 8" grinder if I really need to spend money ...

I don't know if this is of interest as it doesn't have dust extraction, in fact very few do unless they are the quite expensive dustless types.
I just brought a new makita 185mm 5007MGK circular saw at a new introductory price of $239.00 it comes with a spare blade and hard plastic carry case. It is brillant I already have a 160mm makita,a 235mm makita and a 185 ryobi, but this one is great it is almost the same weight as the 160 with the same power as the 235. The 160 was my favorite but no longer.

<rant><rant><rant>I know they all do it, but it sh*&ts me off that when you ring up, seriously interested and say
</rant></rant>- "Do you stock the
?" A:"Yep".
- "I know you have sale on tomorrow, so is that one on sale?" A:"You'll have to come in and see".
- "Right. So is the sale one of those 20-50% off types, or just on some things?" A:"Hey, the markup on power tools isn't that much, we've got 20% off some things and upto 50% off other special items."

Yes I'm very happy with it. Dust extraction isn't a concern for me, but I noticed the dust shoot works a lot better than the older makitas that I own. It's probably possible to fit something to the shoot to attach a vaccumn hose too but it will be fiddly, if you fit an extractor I'm sure it will work well.If it goes against the grain, it's being rubbed the wrong way!

The old bloke who set up Fisher Discounts passed away a few years ago and it is now run by his son, or should I say run into the ground by his son.
The service is ????? and they dont give a toss if you are not spending more than a grand.
Having said this I go out there periodically to see if they have come to there senses and improved customer service ...... alas they have not done so as yet.If you are never in over your head how do you know how tall you are?

Doughboy, that's certainly the impression I got too!
I did come away with an 8" grinder and, after looking at a lot of small circular saws - the one good reason to go since they really do, on sale, have a good range - got a little Ryobi (pah ) that will hopefully do the job. I'm under no illusions that it's a Makita or Hitachi or better, but at a price of $91, with dust extraction easily fitted, it'll do. Sorry I can't find it online - I thought it was a 1500w 185mm model but the one on their oz website is 1350W and the dust outlet is in a different position - I'll have to lookup the details when I get back home...
