Seeing that my other thread re bookmarks got arbitrarily closed without an explanation, except to point me to this thread, I'll ask the question again.

"What are the bookmarks at the bottom of the page for?"

I don't know any of the sites that are bookmarked there, except Google, and don't know what they are there for. If the above is meant to explain their use, than I am missing something.

All I asked for was a simple explanation for a simple person!

Problem will most likely be at your end Carl as the page size is set to float to the screen size with a 20px margin either side. So no matter what size screen you have the page will expand to within 20 px of the screen edge.

Check your browser settings. I believe that Firefox 3 is playing havoc with some sites and settings so if you have it then you should ask contact Mozilla with the problem and ask for a fix. It could be something really simple.

If it isn't Firefox 3 then retrace what you have done with settings recently. Ask yourself if you've hit any odd key strokes like Ctrl + or something like that. There will most likely be a simple and possibly quite silly answer to the problem.

Looks like you are on the 'Ignore list' Fred.... what have you been up to?

You might just have to play with it a bit & let us all know how it works.

"What are the bookmarks at the bottom of the page for?"
The following is the explanation from vBulletin Manual I think I've got it worked out..... Let me know if you do.

Social bookmarking is a way for users to store and organise bookmarks of web pages. In a social bookmarking system, a user will save a link to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. There are a number of third party services offering social bookmarking facilities, vBulletin provides the ability to link directly to an add page and pre-populate the data.

When a user views a publicly accessible thread they will be presented with a set of links at the bottom which allow the addition of the page to admin defined social bookmarking sites.

Haha... Just read the rest of the info on them and they only appear in forums that guests can view and this forum can't be seen by guests.

I still reckon it's you and not the forums otherwise we would have had a heap of long and loud complaints.

Try another browser. Download Firefox 2.0.15 for free or Opera and try them. You'll love 'em and it'll work and you won't want to see IE7 ever again, maybe.

Thanks for that explanation Neil, I did actually go to the FAQ forum and did a search but nothing showed up.

The above highlighted text seems to suggest that users can add bookmarks, but that doesn't seem to be the case. You have obviously gone the pre-populated data way.

Cliff, married for more than 40 years, so I'm used to being ignored

Neil has now put up an explanation, and I think I understand, can't see it being useful to me at this stage, but hey time will tell.

Certainly like the idea of Tags, anything that makes searching quicker and gives better results has to be good.

The other thing that looks good is Albums&Pictures, had alook at that and created an Album and uploaded a picture. At htis stage it only seems to be accessible through the Users' Profile page, but it would be nice if it could be accessed through the side box in a post where your name and number of posts shows up. This is how it works on one of the US pen forums, and it gives a quick access to a members' pictures.

Looks like we will be learning a few things about the new version of vBulletin as times goes on.
