Grovo Warning
A week or so ago one of my old high school classmates made a friendship request
through Grovo. Not wishing to appear ungracious, and thinking it would be helpful
in tracking down some missing persons for our up coming school reunion, I said yes.
Big mistake. A number of other people with whom I have contact, including at least
one member of our forums, have been pestered by Grovo. Despite the fact that I have
not bothered to use Grovo, or sent out any friendship requests, my name appears as
the person making the request.
If any of you know how to swat this pest, please say so.
Also, DO NOT accept any requests from Grovo.
Be warned!!!
Cheers, artme.

Art, I only just joined Facebook today (and i must say, only because I'm working on a particular project). There is not a hope in Hades that Fb will get access to my contacts - they can bugger off.
Who the grovel is Grovo, anyway?

FF, as explained I received a "request" from an old classmate.
I read a couple of the reviews before agreeing to join up.
There was nothing to indicate they would get access to my
contact list, but obviously this is what has happened.
Google Grovo and see what it says. I think now that it is a site
set up for sinister purposes
Just stay well away from it!!!

I'm still running on the main rule of the internet, from back in the early 90's: "Never give out your real personal data to websites on the internet. No exceptions."
If this means I'll never have a facebook account (because it would be possible to work out who I am from who I was linked to), no biggie.
I'm also a believer in the theory that all email addresses are disposable, and you never use your ISP supplied email for anything.

The problem with scum bucket sites is that they load (or try to load) an app which allows them to read your files, including all the common e-mail programs address book files, which they then spam unmercifully. This is usually done thru sneaky .html programming, 'roll overs' and the like. Basically what Facebook, Google+ and similar 'social media' sites do, but without asking.

Grovo contact
I have done some research on this site and it is a legitimate busines.
I have written to Grovo and they have responded.
They have closed my account and taken all my contacts
from their mailing list.
Let us hope this is the end of the matter.
If you get any emails from grove, just delete them.

Thanks for the warning artme! It makes you wonder where all this "information sharing" will lead to.

I have gotten into the habit of going through my Emails a number of times a day. I especially delete all the Spam. But boy they are persistent!!! I keep getting offers of Viagra from Canada or Russia and on from a some woman. They just don't give up.
Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

Hi,
Is Linked in any better? I have had emails supposedly from people I know inviting me to join their net work, which I delete and then a few days later I get one from Linked in telling me I haven't responded. fist time I sent it to the spam box with a report to my AV mob so now it goes straight to junk mail file. I haven't asked any one if they sent the first one them selves or if it just happened like the above.
RegardsHugh

They're all carp as far as I'm concerned.
There was one called Yammer that was put forward by the admin where I used to work as "the preferred method" that gave me the pips with it's persistant call to join up.
What peeves me is that now some people I would like to occasionally communicate with won't communicate in any other way . . . . . Well I just cross them off my pseudo Xmas list and move on.

I have long had a policy of marking any request to join these "social" groups, like LinkedIn, Grovo and their ilk as Spam.
I don't see any benefit in joining these.
I also don't belong to Facebook even though my family keeps asking me to join. I won't even talk aout Twitter!
If I want to read (or write) drivel I can always come to the WWF.

I use Eudora ose for E-mail. It has a learning type spam filter.
Does not miss much so all I have to do is empty the junk
folder occasionally.
Most ADSL providers allow you to have multiple email addresses.
So who uses the same address for everything.
I have nearly 30 all linked back to the main.
Now I know where leaks to spammers occur from.
I never use my real name on any site.
