We was hacked
After a series of wierd and not very nice events over the last couple of days, we had some f&*#ing little smartarse do a reasonably major hack yesterday which we won't go into. This hack has led to one of our members and his entire IP address being deleted.
I did a counter update after the deletion and there didn't seem to be any others who went missing. However, it is possible, although highly unlikely that there are some other members who may also have been affected by the withdrawl of the IP address because they share the same service provider. You will easily know if you are affected because you won't be able to log onto the forums. If this is the case please email and let me know at: [email protected] and I will reinstate your part of the IP adddress.
It also appears that the same prick has targeted our email for a possible viral spam mailout as we have so far received over 700 returned emails to our inbox, all with the original senders address [email protected] and all sent back to us from a variety of users @ozemail.com.au. If you receive an email from us with no message delete it immediately. It is not from us and is most likely housing a virus. Our ISP has been advised and some pretty drastic steps have been taken. NOT HAPPY JAN
The hack vulnerability has been repaired and as a result these forums will undergo yet another major upgrade sometime in the next couple of weeks. This may entail us being off the air for a while in the wee small hours sometime but I will give advanced notice of this.
Cheers - Neil
PS Just received email telling me the little mongrel has been tracked down. He will be dealt with. Up yours you little prick, your justice will be swift and costly.

I take it that the full weight of the law will be used to deal with this cretin . . .(I'm trying very hard not to swear) and then he will be Hung, Drawn and Quartered! This misereable piece of pig's droppings, (hang on, sorry to our pigs out there) does not deserve our sympathy as he has been, as we all are, welcomed into a community of like minded souls, nurtured, allow to experiment with different forms of the hobby and what does he do, shat on us from a great height. could we have this . . . legally removed from his computer for a lenghty term (LIFE!!!!)

Well Caught Neil and also Well Said! Spamming is illegal now isn't it, does this include spoofing i.e. sending emails as if from another person? I can't express what I feel here, not for polite company, but the least I can say is (^&%^&%^&T*(@#*($*( the little *&^^&%$#@%^*(&!!!!!!!!!
Thank God the forum is still here and working well.

Two years ago the rec.woodworking group was besieged by another cretin who posted links to extremely sick sites (scatalogical) and posed as others, caused general ill will etc.
We finally identified who it was, had someone in New York contact the State Attorney, then watched the fun.
He had been using his employers computers and spoofing a number of sites. His employer was horrified at how they were implicated and what this sicko had been up to. The guy lost his job and the employer went after him on legal grounds, along with the State Attorney's office. He started out posting pictures of ***** and found himself over his head in it.
It can, and should, be followed through. Just be sure not to advertise how you catch them (it makes it harder to catch the next guy).
Good luck.

Neil,
Make sure you do a full written quote of every cost related to this event. Supply it to the authority that is dealing with it and have the little ball of amusement hit with the costs as well as his punishment.

PS, was it Al? He would normally have said something by now.Is there anything easier done than said?- Stacky. The bottom pub, Cobram.

Great to hear that the inadequate little has been tracked down. Hurl the entire book at him - with full costs.
