Great design Matt, I think the bolts with their hex recesses go well with the saw.
Innovations are those useful things that, by dint of chance, manage to survive the stupidity and destructive tendencies inherent in human nature.

Nothing like variety of opinion, I was going to say the hex recesses are the one spoiler in my view. They just jar a little with all those smooth flowing lines you've made. I think it's probably just my native conservatism - I'm too used to seeing smooth domed heads on saw bolts. I'll get used to them in time......
I wouldn't do a lot more with the spine, it looks quite good as-is, any more decoration might detract. The handle certainly looks good, and if those knuckle-grazers have been dealt-with, it will be comfy, too. Certainly a unique bit of crafting.
Cheers,IW

Matt
That is excellent and hard to believe this was a first attempt at a back saw. I like the combination of practicality and flamboyance. The flamboyant parts being the "thumbhole" ahead of the top horn, which is virtually redundant on a handsaw, and reminds me of the "Holden" pattern used by Wheeler, Madden and Clemson, but in reverse if that makes sense! Secondly the exaggerated horns, which again are cosmetic and of course the styleised back.
It is all a bit like the nib on the old straight back saws: Serves no function and is there for decoration, but it is all wonderful: An extravagance if you like.
If there was one improvement to your design that I think you could consider it would be the overall balance. I think that your handle, which I really like, might look more in keeping with a deeper sawplate.
Achieving balance with a narrow sawplate is extremely difficult and I suspect it is why they are more often seen with an open handle. The closed handle tends to add too much below the toothline. However, in practice, I don't think it will affect the performance at all.
One last thing with the sex nuts I would consider recessing them a little more until the outer rim of the flange is level with the timber. I think this would make them more discrete and less of a feature, which will tend to distract from the timber and shape of the handle. saw screws should complement the saw rather than dominate.
Thank you for all the pix.
Btw. I have finished reading "The Art of War" by Sun Tsu and can now be considered dangerous (or was that just a liability?)

Have you not got any Paul? Usually come as a pair, but non-OEM are not recommended as they may not function properly.
Great job Matt! The only thing about the bling that doesn't quite rest for me visually is the front of the brass. I think it would run with the blade better if it was rounded over (but that may not be possible now - may reveal the slot?).
Keep up the envelope pushing - that's how we make progress!

Wow.
I wasn't expecing all that guys I feel quite humble.
Ian fear not I've put my files away the brass is done and safe I will just polish out some scratch marks.
Also Ian if you require any sexy saw bolts for your next one just sing out sometimes we have to let go of old habits [emoji12].
Paul you could be correct in regard to the overall proportions.
I let the last piece of slotted brass I have dictate the saw a bit, was that good idea properly not.
I also may have come under my own romantic spell thinking it looks great !!!
Brett sorry just not quite sure what you mean regarding the front of the brass.
Note point
There's something new happing already
But I post that later in the saw making section
I've been told no editing tonight ?
