    Default The Acid Again.

Sorry Chaps, looked into that today Mon., but they use Hydrocholric Acid for the bricks, but they use Sulphuric Acid to make The Hydroc

I've now got another lead, as a Family Member has a heap of Dead Batteries, so he is going to be very careful, & remove some Acid for me.
    Regards,

That could be a bit, ah, complicated for saws.

    For those interested,
I was slightly bored the other night.
(That's not what you should be interested in)
Well about 3 weeks back and for the price of a coffee.
From eBay I've become the very proud owner of these.

LED Jeweler 20X Magnifier Magnifying Eye Glass Loupe+ Illuminated Lamp Light

And for the price I've had endless mins of fun.
And they do actually work rather well for the price.
My right thumb, up close I found .
    No I won't go there .

Ok what you want to hear is these may be useful for some of those wanting a cheap option for sharping very small saws .

The information below arrived yesterday in my emails, did not find them til this morning as the spam filter grabbed them.

I asked for a quote on the four files listed by the first supplier. The quotes are for a selection of files to give us an idea of prices, not meant to be restricting us to just these files as we can order any bahco saw files from the first supplier at least, provided we give sufficient lead time. Note that the second quote is not for the files I asked about. These are apparently just easier for them to find.

Both of these retailers are tool shops which I use and am known at, having an account there. Knowing these two suppliers, I am not surprised that supplier 1 was prepared to go the extra mile.
While researching this I discovered that Paul Sellers also highly recommends the Bahco saw files.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    This from one supplier-------------------------------------------------------------------------ref price--------ex gst---------net price<br>

    4-187-06-2-0 Bahco 6" Extra Slim Cut Taper File 1.0 1.0 0.0 ----------------------------10.25------------7.45 -----------8.20
    4-188-06-2-0 Bahco 6" Dbl Extra Slim Cut Taper File 1.0 1.0 0.0 -----------------------11.80 ------------8.58 -----------9.44
    COMMENT Above file ETA 3-4 weeks 1.0 1.0 0.0 0.00 0.00 0.00
    4-188-05-2-0 Bahco 5" Dbl Extra Slim Cut Taper File 1.0 1.0 0.0 -----------------------11.55 ------------8.40 -----------9.24
These files are handle-less and are the ones that I have been advised are of suitable quality.
(Sawfile handles are easily obtained and easily made. I made all the sawfile handles for the Backsaw making workshop that Dale (dsel74) facilitated a couple of years ago.)
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From another supplier---------------------------------------------------------------------------ex GST ------------inc GST
File taper slim second 150mm 8.4mm width /w ergo handle Bahco -------------------------6.00 ------------------6.60
File taper slim second 150mm 7mm width /w ergo handle Bahco ----------------------------7.31 ------------------8.04
File taper slim second 100mm slim ergo handle Bahco -----------------------------------------5.56 ------------------6.12
File taper slim second 125mm 7mm width /w ergo handle Bahco ---------------------------5.72 -------------------6.29
File taper slim second 125mm 6mm width /w ergo handle Bahco ---------------------------6.55 -------------------7.21

This is the range of Bahco files that they are prepared to get in, not the ones I asked to get a quote on. These are the ones supplied with a handle and I was warned off of these ones.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course there is also the option of Lee Valley as I mentioned in a previous post, with the file roll as well. Personally I would rather get just the files I want ordered in through the local supplier and ask Julie to make a tailored file roll out of my stash of black calico. She can make crochet hook rolls out of fabric printed with poppies so she should be able to do this simple task for me.

With Easter only weeks away, and possibly adding to the leadtime of 3-4 weeks to get files in, it is probably time to pick out a few saws each and work out what files you need.

If I understood correctly, supplier 1 can source the whole Bahco range of saw files here: https://extranet.snaeurope.com/prodb...ectionID=51591 look about half way down the page for triangular files.

    Does this help anyone?

    Cheers

    Doug

Doug, they are quite good prices, around 27% off list price as far as I can ascertain. Certainly better than what I have been able to find so far.

The 4-186-06-2-0 file is a number 2 cut, it has 20 T/cm it is 150mm long on the triangulated section where the work face is.

The 4-188-06-2-0 file is a number 2 cut, it has 24 T/cm it is 150mm long on the triangulated section where the work face is.

The 4-188-05-2-0 file is a number 2 cut, it has 26 T/cm it is 125mm long on the triangulated section where the work face is.

According to a local supplier in Melbourne, these files are showing as in stock and should be able to be in store in 3 business days, I would allow at least 4 if not 5 to be sure.

I couldn't get anywhere with your link, I'm not a member and didn't think joining was worth it.

I have not cracked the code completely but

4- seems to be saw sharpening files
188, 183, 186 seem to be model numbers, but not sure how they are generated or if they have any other meaning than a generic sequence
06, 05,04 are the length in inches
2 is second-cut, also seen numbers form 0-4 in that place in the part number, self explanatory
0 at the end seems to be no handle. 2 on the end means handled. I have been told handleless files are better quality

Neither of my suppliers have the handleless ones in stock and supplier 1 estimates 3-4 weeks, but with the time we have and the cheaper price its probably worth ordering early

Not sure why, I cannot access the link from my post either but I can navigate to that page without joining.
    go to bahco.com
click on "products" tab near the middle of the page
    Click on "catalog"
Click on "flat engineering files" (near top of left hand column)
Click on "sharpening files" (partway down right hand column, after new page loads, Left hand column remains the same)
    Scroll down to triangular files
I found it takes a while for each page to load at times, so patience is needed

    Cheers

Doug, I tried to make a direct link and it came up with the same dead link as your link, something strange going on there.

Meanwhile I think you are reasonably correct about the codes, although I wonder why a Swedish company uses inches in the code for actual file groove length when every measurement is metric.

I agree, ordering within the next week is probably a very good idea.

Is your source just for you, or is it a general source?

    Mick.
