I have a plan to ply Chris with alcohol before hand. I've got to do something to cause his hands to shake - he's too damn good!

I'm planning to do a fair bit of dovetailing. I was asked to demo the Knew Concepts fretsaw, which LN Australia will be selling.

I also thought that I could do a demo of shooting, with tips, which will provide an opportunity to use the #9 and #51 alongside one another. I shall take a gaggle of boards with me for everyone to play with.

#9 vs #51 is a comparison I want to see.

about a year ago (well, maybe a little more) there was talk that along with releasing the #51 [R!] Lie Nielsen would have plans for a shop made matching wooden shooting board.
Have you seen these? if they exist, maybe you could make one for inclusion in your "gaggle" of boards.
BTW, don't forget to have one or two left-hand shooting boards and a couple of bench hooks

I have the plans for the LN wooden shooting board, and will make one to take along with me to the Handtool Event. I have arranged with LN for the loan of a #9 over the course of the event, and will write up my observations (and those of others) versus the #51. I think that this is a unique opportunity - there can't be many times when all these tools are assembled together.

One of the boards will be the Carousel molding shooting board, which allows for left- and right shooting.

Bench hooks! Good idea. Almost forgot.

Hi Derek

I love my #9, and not just for shooting end grain. Whilst it's a little unwieldy there are a number of jobs where the long nose and mass comes in really really handy.

If after the show, you want to do a longer comparison, let me know.

Woo Hoo! I got my postcard invite in the mail yesterday...
What time is your shooting board demo on? I've built a shooting board and use my refurbished No7 Stanley Bailey but aren't getting the results I was hoping. Will be great to get some tips from the experts.
I am keen to see all the demos but I have two small children so I may not be able to dedicate a whole day to it - is there a timetable for both days?
Maybe can pick up a heavily discounted marking knife from Chris Vesper too...

As far as I know there is no schedule of events - I am a bit naive here and am not aware of how LN run events elsewhere. I assumed that the demos would be ad hoc and run constantly through the day from each stand, allowing all to rotate between each as they choose.

at the Sydney event, the tool vendors were basicly in continuous discussion with attendees, demonstrating, explaining, chatting

PLUS, there was a separate "formal" demonstration area (programed as)

Stuart Faulkner is the Director of the Sturt School for Wood
I didn't see the sharpening demo -- however, I think he covered using aids like the eclipse jig and shop made jigs to set blade projection, etc
he may also have talked about the Veritas jig -- I think I saw one on his bench

Over the weekend Stuart also had a bench in the "vendors area" where he talked about the school, demonstrated how to prepare a card scraper and other stuff
